is carters clothing true to size?

I have found that Carters clothes run about the same as everything else, but that EVERYTHING runs smaller than it says... My LO is 75% for size (so not huge), and she was in all 3 mos stuff at 6 wks, and has been in 6 mos stuff since she was 4 mos old.

97th percentile for weight though.

Yes, they run pretty true to size, assuming your baby is in the 50th%. When the size says "3 months" that means 0-3 months. So your baby wearing 3 months is right on target.  Our baby wears the 6 month, which again is 3-6 months, and he's 3 months. But he's getting close to needing to size up. He's a very large baby though.

I find that different styles in there run differently. Addie is out of NB and in 3 month stuff, but in some of their footed pjs she's going to need 6 months soon because her 3 month ones are almost too short.

OOh! I have always wondered about this!  I am glad I read this post.  Catherine is long but thin so I find that some things still don't fit her that are 0-3 months and she is 2 weeks form being 3 months.  Like, I have this adorable sweater outfit for her that she cannot wear because the pants are too big for her torso!

I wish all clothes gave a length and weight span on the tag, and that the tags read 0-3 months vs. 3 months. I find it all so confusing! FWIW- Ralph Lauren stuff runs really small..... good thing I figured that out otherwise S might have missed out on wearing some of her cute outfits!

I've noticed it depends on what line of carter's clothing and where I got it from.  Weird I know, but the Target line seems to run small to me, and the ones at BRU seem to run true to size.  However, I do have a preemie who is just now getting into her 0-3 month, and 3 month clothing.

My DD is long but skinny for her age, and I find that she can stay in Carter's a little bit longer than the age range says.  She was in nb until she was about 1 month, in 0-3 until 3.5 mo or so (but she still wears some of the onesies with an extender) and now is nearly 5 mo and 3-6 fits very well.

FYI Osh Kosh and Carters are basically the same, owned by the same company I'm pretty sure...that's why they send out coupons together : )

Carter's sizes (if you note the lengths and weights) run "backwards," meaning that "3m" is 0-3 months, "6m" is 3-6m, and so on. "18m" is 12-18. They run about average (generalized sizes) compared to other brands, but they will shrink 10%. I got this info from a friend who worked there for a few years. Also, some of their sets come with "long and thin" onesies and others (especially onesies sold separately) are "short and fat." Harris always outgrew the short and fat onesies early, but the long and thin ones could fit him beyond the age range (he could still wear the thin 3m outfits at 4m).

ETA: Harris also outgrew newborn at 1 month (I didn't expect an 8lb baby to be able to wear newborn longer than a week, though - I was shocked). He started wearing 0-3 then as well.

DD wore NB size until she was 5 weeks old. She wore 3 month sizes until about a week ago and now she is wearing 6 month sizes. (This goes for Carters clothes only). Some of her other stuff ran smaller or larger or true to size.
