Upstate NY Babies

AW BFing!

For those that know my struggles, since I posted a lot in the first couple months about my breastfeeding woes.

For the last week or so BFing has gotten less and less painful and while it is not always painfree, it is mostly there.  And the night feeding and the first in the morning feeding is completely pain free.  During the day it still hurts at times, but not horrible pain and not the whole feeding any more.  I kept hoping and hoping that it would happen one day.  And part of me figured it would always be painful, but another part held onto the hope that since the LC said her problem is she is a "tongue-thruster" that the reflex would disappear between 4-6 months like it does when babies are ready for food.

Her drinking out of the bottle has also gotten much better over the last couple weeks.  DH says that she is not as loud and slurpy.  She always drank enough, she is just doing it much faster and more efficiently.  On me too, and it is great!

Now, I just continue to keep my fingers crossed that teeth show up late haha :)

  • That is awesome news.  I can't imagine going for that long with pain, you deserve a HUGE pat on the back!

  • Yay!  Great job to you for sticking it out!  We had a lot of BFing issues in the beginning to and it was painful to me for a very long time.  I know that someone who has never BFed before or didn't have problems with it would not really be able to relate, but I really feel like making breastfeeding work and sticking with it is one of my proudest accomplisments :)

Congrats and keep it up! :)

  • You are a total champ!!!  I don't think I could ever deal with the pain for that long.  It took 6 weeks before bf'ing stopped hurting and that was long enough!!  I probably wouldn't still be nursing if it continued.  I hope it continues to get even better for you!!
