How Many Dressers Are You Getting For LO's Room?

DH and I are buying a long dresser and putting a changing pad on top, but we are also thinking about buying the tall dresser that matches the set. It doesn't seem like there is enough room in the long dresser for LO's things. It has 3 drawers and then a cabinet with shelves on either side of the drawers. Is anyone else purchasing both dressers?

  • Dresser/changer combo and another dresser.
  • Loading the player...
  • Nope, just getting the crib with changing table attached.  We do have a decent sized closet though.
  • We have one dresser in the closet and we'll get another dresser for out in the room.
  • DD has one dresser.  It's 5 drawers.  I still can't fill it to the brim.  Right now, one of her drawers is completely empty.  And, it isn't like my kid doesn't have a huge wardrobe.  Baby/Toddler clothes are just small, lol.

We also have a closet organizer, but I really only hang dresses and sweaters in there now.  All of baby boy's stuff will be in the closet.

  • We have 1 dresser with 6 drawers that is doubling as our changing table (just putting a pad on top), plus the closet for hanging things. I would also like to get a shelve that we can put the canvas bins in for extra storage.
  • For my son, we bought a dresser/changer combo plus a tall dresser. IMO, it's not necessary if you have a good sized closet. We didn't realize this, obviously. :)

    This exactly!!

  • Just 1 chest of drawers because of a lack of space.
  • We are only purchasing the combo dresser.  Our dresser has 3 deep drawers and the cabinet to the side that has the option of putting 3 shelves in there.  She'll have her own closet so I don't forsee needing a closet and TWO dressers for her.

The furniture we chose has many "big people" pieces that we may want to add when she is older.  I don't want to buy the tall dresser now and then later decide that we want the armoire when she's older but not have room (we tend to like really old houses without closets, so armoire may be necessity in the future).  If We start to not have room for her things then we'll buy another piece.  It's just not necessary for us at the moment though.

  • The room is only so big so we are going with another dresser with changer on top. DD's is the 3 drawer with cabinet on the right side and it has worked for her. It is actually nice b/c she can open the drawers and pull everything out, but can't open the cabinet yet. I put jammies in the top drawer, with onesies, 2nd drawer is pant/jeans, 3rd drawer sat empty until I decided to put things that are just slightly too big so I don't have to rummage thru all the totes. In the cabinet are diapers and a tupperware drawer thing that holds ointments hair things, thermometer. That kind of thing and on the bottom of the cabinet are extra diapers and wipes.. All of her shirts get hung in the closet. I think I have more than enough rooom with that. They have a lot of clothes but you don't have to keep enough in the room until they are 3. Just what they need now, then switch it out. Seasonal-wise too.
  • we are minimalists by nature...  we probably won't have a changing table..and most of LG's clothes will be hung up on hangers...  so maybe not even a dresser.. just a shelf with baskets for supplies and things like socks, stockings, shoes, diapers, bloomers, etc.

  • we are just doing the dresser/changer combo, the one we picked out has plenty of drawer space.
  • We are doing the crib/changing table combo, and a dresser.
  • we are getting both.  there seems like such a small amount of space in the dresser/combo, and the one we picked out has 6 drawers.  we still got the tall dresser to match and we have a closet in there as well.  u can never have too much space.  and also, we got the convertible crib, so as they get older, their clothes get bigger! lol.  good luck!

  • We will only get one dresser, if any.  There's a fairly large closet in the nursery.

  • We have both for DD and purchased both for DS as well, too. My thought was that even if we don't need the space now (which we don't for DD) it will be nice to have the matching pieces when they're older and do need the space.

  • wow! sounds like the discussion in our household last night..making a decision this weekend..this feedback will help.
  • We are getting the long dresser with the hutch on top. Originally I thought this would be enough drawer space, but the drawers are about half as wide as a normal dresser- fine for onesies and bibs but not for 12 year old boy clothes! So we got the tall dresser too.

  • We bought an adult dresser thats deep enough to put a changing pad on. That way when our LO is older he can still use the dresser and its not kiddie sized. We also bought the nightstand, just so he will have it when he's older.

  • just one dresser... our other 3 kids only use one dresser each
  • Each child has one dresser each (5 drawers). We never had a changing table with DD, so we're going without one again.

  • We are just buying an armoire but have a dresser we don't want to get rid of in her closet. But I don't think we'll need all that room and plan to use the dresser for other things (my off season clothes, bedding, etc). I don't think you'll need it for storage (assuming you have a closet in the room as well) but if you have the money and want LO to have a full set of matching furniture for the rest of her life then you could get it now....but if there is no room, then I wouldn't bother or worry.

  • we are getting the 6 drawer dresser and armoire.

as well as the nightstand, the conversion kit, and the liftetime crib.

I don't like combos as what is that door with the shelves going to be used for when the baby is 10 to 18?

  • We have one four drawer dresser and a change table that has shelves and will likely hold the onesies/undershirts and sleepers.
  • We bought a tall (5-drawer) dresser and an armoire. Changing will most likely take place in our spare room on a low dresser.
