South Florida Babies

wdyt?

I'm going to pack my hospital bag this weekend.  Should I bring a few outfits to dress the baby in each day?  Nothing fancy, just a few onesies and one piece stretchies.

When I had Nicky, I didn't bring anything but a coming home outfit and he wore the ill-fitting hospital t-shirt and a diaper the entire time.  Since he stayed with me in the room instead of in the nursery, I could have dressed him in whatever I wanted and wished I had.

Do you think the hospital staff will think I am a real nut if I bring clothes and dress the baby everyday?

Re: wdyt?

  • I think if you know you want to dress your baby, then bring the outfits.  I was personally happy not to have to dress the kid at all and left them both in the ill-fitting hospital outfit, but I didn't care if the staff thought I was slovenly or lazy!  So I say go for it.

  • I had brought outfits to dress Mikey in everyday. I did it the first day and then stopped because it was such a hassle to change him out of everything because he kept making a mess with his formula.
  • Girl, bring all those cute outfits!!  It's never too young to start looking fashionable!  Wink
  • I say bring the outfits, and play it by ear.  The outfits are so tiny anyway, they don't take up too much space in the bag.  : )

  • Bring the outfits - at the hospital where I had DS, the nurses actually asked me if I brought clothes for him cause they didn't want me to leave him in the hospital t-shirt...

  • It's funny, with Noah I let him wear the tshirt and diaper (and swaddle).  Kate had a different outfit every day.  I don't know why I brought her clothes but she wore them!
  • I dunno, i think it's more of a pain then it's worth! I let her stay in the hospital shirt and diaper. i remember lots of diaper changes and skin to skin contact with me for bonding and i think undressing her would have been too much work!
  • If you want to, bring it and play by ear... I didn't even know that I *could* bring clothes to dress the baby in every day - kind of silly of me, LOL, but I had never done this before! So Zachary just wore the hospital shirt and diaper. I do wish I'd maybe brought my own cute shirts and hat and blankie or something - at least something to wrap him up in for a photo op! but I think that with how often you need to change their diapers and with all the mess they make in the beginning it might be more of a hassle.

  • I'd bring clothes and play it by ear as well. When the girls were born the hospital only had these flimsy paper-ish "clothes" so I ended up dressing them in their own onsies.
  • I took clothes for Izzy.  DH thought I was crazy but my mom said to do it, she did it w/my brother & me.  I changed her everyday!!! I also got her the trumpette socks.  Not just the mary jane style...a pair looked like pink cowgirl boots.  ALL  the nurses loved it!!! She was Ms. Fashionista!!!

  • I did with Charlotte, and then didn't use anything but the going home outfit n the end. Like Mel said with all the skin to skin, it wasn't worth the hassle, but either way do what you want and what you feel comfortable with. Screw the rest ;)
  • Agree!!!

  • Take outfits for sure!!!! I changed Nico in the hospital every morning and night. It's nice that he wasn't wearing the same thing in every picture we have from the hospital. And who cares what the hospital staff thinks!
