possible allergy to green peas

So Ella has been doing great with solids try 2 for the last week.  We did 4 days of sweet potatoes which she liked and then4 days of carrots which she loved. Today we tried green peas and she loved them but I noticed a bright red patch on her neck after eating about 1 oz so I stopped and took her clothes off to see if it was just a strange red spot or a rash and her back and tummy had red splotches on it.  So I called the doctor and she told me to stop peas until 9 months and to have bennadryl on hand just in case.  The hives went away in about 30 min on there own but the doctor is worried that because peas are a legume that she might also be allergic to peanuts!  Oh how much would that suck!  I am highly allergic to shrimp and it has not been that bad but it is so easy to avoid shrimp.  Peanuts well that would just suck.

I must say that I love my doctors office more and more.  Not only does the receptionist always ask if it is Sam (me) or Sue (my wife) every time I call and makes me feel so comfortable to be a 2 mom family she also went and interupted the dr while she was seeing a patient to see if the doctor wanted to talk to me right then and then called me back within 5 minutes to let me know when the doctor would be calling me.  The doctor also called back very quickly and was so helpful and this isn't our actual doctor (ours is out on bed rest).  So while the whole hive thing was a little stressful at least dealing with the doctors office was quite nice.

Re: possible allergy to green peas

  • Oh no - I have severe food allergies as well so I hold my breath each time we start a new food with Sarah.  So far we've had a week of sweet potatoes and a week of butternut squash.  Avocado is next on the list and we have peas coming up after that.  I never would have made the connection between peas and peanuts though...good to know!

  • I would have never made that connection - ty for the info.  We love our doc/nurses too.  Glad you have a good team behind you & that Ella recovered quick.  :)
