Baby Showers

Considering offering throwing a shower- wwyd?

So my SIL is expecting her second child, however her daughter will be almost 11 by the time the new baby comes plus the baby is a boy.

My concern is that my own baby (my first) will be less than 2 months old at about the time the shower would come and I am just a little worried that it will be a little overwhelming trying to do it.  I am sure either my other SIL, my MIL, her sister, or her mother will be throwing her one.

Should I just attend as a guest or try to participate as a host?

Re: Considering offering throwing a shower- wwyd?

  • I co-hosted a baby shower when DD was three weeks old. We did it at a tea room and a lot of the responsibilities were taken care of. Is there anywhere that you could do it where you wouldn't have to worry about too much?
  • I am not sure.  I don't know that my SIL's friends and family would be comfortable with it being where mine is (my DH's aunts house), so my guess is we would probably do it in my SIL (the  mother-to-be)'s home because it is large enough for friends and family on both sides.  My guess is that there will be about 40 people and some children there so having it at a nice restaurant is probably not going to work.

  • I think being the sole host would be overwhelming, but if you think another family member is eager then maybe you could pair up so that neither of you have the full burden. I think a shower is a lot for one person regardless of their kid situation. You are very sweet to be thinking of her, and I agree that this is an acceptable second shower situation :-)

  • I would suggest co-hosting. It is so sweet of you to want to throw her a shower. And not that it really matters, but I agree with the PP about this being a perfect example of when a second shower is totally acceptable.

  • I will talk to my other SIL and my MIL and see what we can work out as far as co-hosting.  Thanks ladies.

  • I hosted my sisters wedding shower at a restaurant 9 days after I had my c-section and I was fine

that is rock star status right there... I would not consider you to be the norm. Are you even allowed to drive that soon after a C-section?

  • Would she accept a shower?  She's a second-time Mom, and a shower - while well-intentioned - is not appropriate.
  • I would thinks so, it isn't uncommon in the family plus her daughter is almost 11!  It isn't like she is 4, I don't think that they have any of their DD's old baby stuff.
