I am just curious if the baby needs a jumper, swing, and walker right away?
I am not planning on buying any of that stuff until the baby may actually use it. But I am not sure when they start? I know the walker takes a lil time, but how early do they use a jumper and swing??
Is it essential to have when the baby arrives?
May be a stupid question.
Re: Does the baby NEED this stuff?
Well I guess technically baby doesn't NEED any of it. That said, we use the bouncer (not jumperoo, but the little reclined seat) and the swing right away with our newborns. Seems like one of ours would only sleep more than a few hours in the swing at first...
You definitely do not need a jumperoo or a walker right away.
None of it's essential.
For us, the swing is since both our other children loved it, and they used them right away. The walker and the jumper? We won't get unless they're gifted.
All baby wants or needs is a place to sleep when they are born. The swing can be used right away, but an exersaucer (much safer than a walker) and bouncer won't be used until baby is able to hold their head well on their own. Usually between 3-4 months.
Several of my friends swear by their swing--they said, this was a life-saver for them to help the baby sleep etc.
The swing is the only item of those listed that I'll personally buy if I don't receive it as a shower gift...
The others I'll wait on till they need it...
I'd get the swing... we used it from week 1 with DD. Our frieinds decided not to get one as some babies don't like them. After their DD arrived they called us after 2 weeks and asked to borrow ours. It was a life saver for them. Their DD only wanted to be held and rocked, but once put in the swing she was happy as can be. Allowed the parents a little down time and a break from holding her 24/7.
Get one off of craigslist if you don't want to spend a ton of money, but I would definitely recommend one. The rest of the stuff can wait.
We had a papasan style swing and used that and the bouncer from day one. It was nice to have a place near us that DS could sleep. The sit-up style swings would have to be for later.
I was opposed to getting lots of big plastic activity-type centers because DS had plenty of other toys, but we did get a bungee baby bouncer, which DS LOVED at about 5 months old (plus, it takes up no room and packs up VERY small) and a walker because he refused to crawl and was desperate to walk (and my back was hurting from leading him around all the time). People talk about walkers being dangerous (i.e. babies have fallen down stairs), but I can't imagine how that would happen if you are careful and watchful. They can, however, chew up the corners in your house (drywall, trim, etc.) -- I plan to get some foam padding this time around since our house was just refinished.
