Bowling a problem?

I hadn't really thought much about it, but DH and I do a bowling thing for charity every year for our state bar association which is coming up this weekend.  I haven't had any complications or restrictions placed on me by my doctor, but thought maybe that throwing around a 10-12 pound bowling ball for a couple of hours might not be the best idea...thoughts?

Re: Bowling a problem?

  • I would be worry but that's just me and because I'm a klutz. I'd be worried about swinging the ball the wrong way or slipping and falling but since you do it often I'm sure you'd be fine.

  • I think I'd be sore from it.
  • I went this weekend and had no problems, I didn't even think about it. I only use a 9lb ball (sometimes I grabbed the 8).  Other than being horrible (I said my center of gravity was thrown off) I felt fine.  We only bowled two games though, I don't know if you had planned to play all day. Maybe just limit the number of games and I think you'll be fine.

  • I would use a lighter ball... but I wouldn't be too worried.

This.  It might be awkward for you.  Just listen to your body.

    This.

Anytime I go bowling I get so achy for the next couple days. I can't imagine how achy I would be if I went now! You should take some Tylenol when you get home from the ally.

  • You should be fine, I bowl on a league once a week and haven't had any problems.
  • You'll be fine. I asked my doctor about it and she literally just looked at me and said you're pregnant not dying haha (she is very sarcastic and funny). DH and I go every Tuesday with our friends. We usually bowl 3 games, and I switch throwing arms every so often so one side doesn't get sore. But it's good excersize, just drink alot of water to stay hydrated.
  • Yep- nothing to worry about.  I asked my doctor too (more for if I should stop later).  She said no, as long as you feel comfortable.

The important thing to remember is that your body is changing- you are looser, your center of gravity is changing, and you can pull things that you never usually pull.  I find when I'm bowling that if I throw certain ways I feel it in my belly, which I don't like.  I just try to be careful and not throw the ball as hard as normal.  I have not changed to a lighter ball though, and it is fine.

  • My sister bowled on a league through her whole pregnancy. I've been a few times. You'll be fine.

  • Me and DH bowl all the time, I use a 12lb ball and doc assured me that it is totally safe.

  • i went bowling over the weekend- i just used a 6 lb ball tehe.
  • Ha!  Okay so I looked up the whole bowling thing before I went on Saturday with my family.  Into the second game, trying the get the darn ball to go straight again, I tweaked something in my back and it hasn't been the same all week long.  I already had problems on the left, but those were fading to mere memories when this happened.  I will not be bowling for a very long time now.  Granted I'm a special case, but I'm still walking like an old lady after that night!
