2nd Trimester

Used baby items - pack n play

I need a pack n play for daycare.  I will register for a nice one for my house, but for daycare many have suggested craigslist, etc...  While I do not object to used hand me down swings, bouncers, toys, etc...  I am not sure how I feel about the pack n play mhy baby will sleep in everyday.  Thoughts?  Am I being crazy?

Just clean it out really, really well and you will be good to go! It will be much cheaper, and your baby will be fine.

  • My girlfriend got one from a consignment shop that was actually in really good condition.  She ended up cleaning it really well and hasn't had any issues with it.
  • I'd rather have a new one at daycare since it will get the most use.  That's just me.  Will you use your home one everyday or just when you go somewhere?

  • I was supposed to meet a woman to buy her pack-n-play on the day I ended up in the hospital having an emergency c-section so I never got to buy it.  We ended up buying a new one since we needed it right away but I would have bought a used one otherwise.

I have a problem buying some stuff used but I don't have a problem with the idea of a pack-n-play being used- you would put a sheet over the bottom when they sleep in it anyway.  I'd just use a cleaner to clean it down before using it the first time.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

  • as long as its not a recall I wouldn't worry about it but its up to you and your comfort level.  You can get a no-frills pnp for $50-60

  • I bought 2 pack n plays off of craigslist ($25 each!) and they are in perfect condition.  They actually smelled good...lol!  Since they are a vinyl type material, they can easily be disinfected.  Your child is going to daycare and there will be a billion germs there!
  • I got a used one from my SIL that will go to my parents house.  As long as it's still in good condition, I don't see a problem with it.
  • I would just clean it really well and get some pack n play sheets.

  • Awesome!  The one for home will probably only be used randomly.  It will be more for containing baby safely while I am doing something.  Crib on 2nd floor, and pack n play on  first floor to use mostly as a changing station/play pen.

  • I'm using my SILs - go for it!
  • Once baby is in daycare, will you be using it that much (as long as baby is sleeping in crib or bassinet?)  We hardly use ours except for limited travel or for guests...I could see how 1 would work perfectly fine.  Take it home on the weekends that you may need it.
