Concert while pregnant?

DH and I want to go to a concert in a few months. The day of the concert I will be around 6 months pregnant. I am planning to ask my doctor, but I thought I would ask you ladies for opinions. My mom went to a concert while 8 months pregnant with me and my step-MIL did also. They both seem to think it will be fine.

  • What concert is it? Will you be sitting or standing the whole time? Shoved into a mosh pit?

  • I went to one at 16 weeks, with the Ok from my Dr. Two rows in front of me there was a woman who was easily 7-8 months pg, so I think you will be fine.

  • I know someone who saw Lady Gaga @ 8 months PG and baby was rockin' out in there...you'll be fine!

  • It's a Nickelback concert. I am guessing not too crazy. I was just wondering, because I read on a few websites that the loud noises can put strain on the baby and sometimes cause hearing loss. I am planning to go. I just thought I would get some opinions on what other pregnant ladies would do. Thanks!

  • My OB said it was fine as long as I wasn't sitting right next to the speakers.  We are going to see Dave Matthews in June and I'll be around 34 weeks.

  • I'm going to a concert in May, around 35 weeks or so... I'm due in June. It's an outdoor concert, so I'm not worried about the noise. I just need to find a comfortable spot where there won't be people smoking around me :)

  • I worked as a bouncer/medic while pg with DS, I can't tell you how many insanely loud concerts I worked at, and DS is perfect Smile No sign of hearing loss, and I will say his musical tastes are as varied as mine, LOL. If it makes you feel more comfortable, verify with your OB, but mine assured me that there is enough cushion between your abdomen and the amniotic fluid that the noise will not cause them undue harm.

  • I'd go!

Well...maybe not to THAT concert, but I'd go to a concert.  ;)

I'm so jealous you get to see Dave.  I have to forgo this year because the baby will be just a few weeks old when he comes to my area.  Of course he couldn't do the east coast in August or September!

To original poster - you'll be fine.  Just make sure you have a place to sit if you get tired.  But enjoy yourself and you can tell baby that it's first concert was Nickleback!

  • I would say the only thing to watch out for is smokers! They are everywhere at concerts...and too drunk to care about anyone else.

    Otherwise..go and have fun!

  • Well, that depends.  Are you planning to go into a mash pit or crowd surf?  If not, you'll be just fine.  Unless you would be worried about second hand smoke or other recreational drug exposure.
  • It will be okay.  You just dont want to be around loud noises all the time.

Thanks. I checked the venue out online and it said it is a smoke-free venue. I'm sure people will probably still try to smoke, but at least all the air won't be filled with smoke!

  • I'm going to a concert in mid June and I'll be 6 months as well.  I posted the same question and got the same responses... forgot to talk to my doctor about it, I have to remember to mention it next time!  But I think it will be ok.
  • I was going to say it's totally fine, but Nickleback?   Are you sure you want to damage your LO's ears by making them listen to Nickleback?

Yeah, I was gonna say... I can think of numerous reasons why you shouldn't go to a Nickleback concert... but.... pregnancy isn't one of them :)

  • You'll be fine.  My LO has been to 5 shows in utero already.  2 at 5 wks, 1 at 13 wks, 1 at 25 wks & 1 this wk at 26 wks.  I am sure there will be more.

I've only declined one so far even though it broke my heart.  A 2 hour drive each way to a smokey bar venue on a worknight doesn't seem like a good idea at 29 weeks.  Sad.

  • LOL, it's fine.  I went to many, many concerts while I was pregnant with K.  At the last one, I was about 3 weeks away from my due date. :)

  • Just make sure you wear headphones on your belly.

This except my OB says no concerts when PG but I'm still going anyway.  As long as I don't sit next to speakers I have no problem with it.  I'm also going to see DMB in June and I'll be about 34 weeks..

  • My husband just got tickets (free) to Rage Against the Machine. I will be 8 months pregnant at the time. Something tells me I'll be chillin at the back watching the concert go on. haha.
