I know it's just because I'm a first time mom, but I am really overwhelmed with this whole "feeding solids" thing. DD will be 6 months next week and we just weaned her to FF. I've heard to start with 1 veggie a day. Plus a little milk or water in a sippy. What about rice cereal? Then when do you I know to add more foods or the fruit? aaahhhhh! Help please ![]()
Re: Need help with feeding plan
Check out the site wholesomebabyfood. Its got a lot of info about makign your own food but also about starting in general. There is even a smaple meal plan, then you can work with it fepending on how your DD does. There is debate about whether or not its necessary to start with cereal at 6 months (soem start cereal at 4 etc).
We started with cereal just after 5 months. We started with once a day, and we did it late afternoon (4pm) I offered it about an hour after he nursed. We took ti slow since he was under 6 months and I went thru all 3 cereals (rice, oat, barely) and then started slowly introducing fruits & veggies. We didn't do all veggie or all fruit just a combo and we didn't always wait 3 days in between
Now at almost 7 months (gasp) he is getting 3 meals a day, a mix of purees and solids at each and he nurses 5-6 times in 24 hrs
We also do a mix of table foods because he loves to feed himself.
Here is the chart I was talking about

my best advice...take it slow. I thought the moment i put a spoon in his mouth he'd enjoy it, eat it every day and ask for more.
it took about 1.5 months for DS to really start eating a few spoonfulls, once a day, on a regular basis.
Go to wholesomebabyfood... they have a great schedule for introduction!
I felt nervous about this too, but just dove in bc I knew LO wanted to eat more. He was eating almost 40 oz of formula a day and was very interested in watching me eat.
I started with rice cereal and then did barley. 4 days of each mixed with formula. I started with a small amount and made it watery. Each day I added a bit more cereal to make it less runny. After I saw he loved it and was getting the hang, I tried peas mixed in with cereal. Then I did greenbeans.
Lots of people start with a friut or veggie, but since I give LO Enfamil AR with rice already in the formula, I figured he was already familiar a little with the taste of rice.
There seems to be no exact way to do it, do some research, ask some questions, be confident and follow the lead of your LO. You'll do great, GL.
