Re: Jeffers and the alternative vaccine schedule

  • Yup, they honor the wishes of the parents. I had an awesome discussing about this with one of the docs in the hospital after Katie was born. While a lot of research now shows there is no need for delayed vaccines, and that is the opinion they share, they were VERY receptive to abiding by the parent's wishes and allowing an alternative schedule. I didn't feel pressured by him in the least to go one way or the other.

  • Yes, we actually are doing an alt. vaccine schedule due to some reactions Keira had, and they even eliminated one particular vaccine due to some concerns we all had after 2 were given and reactions happened. . They are super flexible and will work with you.

  • That's good to hear that they've been flexible.  Maybe it depends on who you ask, but when we went for the open house thingy (we're pedi-shopping), they sounded pretty unfriendly about it.  In fact I think she said something to the effect of "we advise some parents to go elsewhere", but maybe she was talking about those who don't want to vaccinate at all.  We plan to do a delayed schedule also and I was about to rule JMA out based on what was said at the open house.

I remember hearing the "we advise some parents to go elsewhere" at our J&M orientation and remember that was specifically in reference to parents who wish not to vaccinate at all. Just my .02!

  • My advice is to find a pediatrician that will work with you and be open minded, even if you have to try out several practices. We had to leave the first practice we were at because they would not work with us at all on an alternate schedule, which is my opinion is a huge disservice to patients (pressuring them into things they are not comfortable with, etc). We found someone we are much more comfortable with. Best of luck to you, I hope they will work with you!
  • thank you everyone. i have our appointment today, and they are totally open to our alternative schedule! so, heads up to the lady thinking of ruling them out---it worked out well for us! thanks again ladies!
