Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If your DC didn't take a bottle...

I need your advice. I am wanting to wean DD and she WILL NOT take a bottle. I've lost that battle so many times, I'm giving up. What would you do? She doesn't really drink out of a sippy cup and only plays around...I feel trapped and feel forced into bfing and I hate this feeling.

  • i just went straight to a sippy, but we are no where near weaning. he mainly only drink water out of it.

but if you are wanting to wean now, i would just try every bottle out there.

  • My DD would not take a bottle either. ?I wasn't looking to wean, just get back to work part-time and needed her to take a bottle while at the sitter. ?It was a nightmare and never really worked out. ?I ended up going to the sitter's to feed her during my lunch break. ?I only worked two days a week and it was really flexible but it was such a pain and I constantly worried about her getting enough milk. ?Luckily, she loved baby food and that kept her full until I could get to her. ?I ended up nursing until she turned one and really just kept pushing the sippy. ?My DD didn't really start using the sippy until after nine months. ?Until then, she just played with it. ?

Good Luck. This was really hard and I plan on introducing the bottle to the new baby was sooner.?

  • We went straight to a sippy cup. She wasn't great at it, but I could get her to eat a lot of Sonic (crushed) ice, so I didn't worry about her getting too dehydrated. She wouldn't in any way shape or form drink milk out of it for the first couple of months. She got her milk from yogurt and cheese during that time.
  • Straight to sippy for us and I felt the same way-kinda trapped and bf'ing longer than I wanted. We started earlier on whole milk(with pedi's ok)so he was taking it from 10mos on.  He still isnt a big milk drinker but gets his calcium from other foods.

He played with it too until he realized that was the only place he was going to get milk!  Hang in there!

  • Thanks ladies. I sometimes feel like DD is the only child in this world to not take a bottle.

  • Try different nipples as well.  I didn't have this issue but my mom did with my younest sister.  She had her at 35 and had to go back to work so she pumped and my dad stayed home with the baby.  Hunter wouldn't take bottles unless they had a certain nipple on them.  HTH.  good luck:)
