Peri guesses identical

The peri took a look at the boys placentas today and said it looks like they are identical.  She said they prefer to look at them earlier but thought they were equally sharing one placenta....have any of you had this? What did yours end up being?

The ob had originally said that she thought they had 2 seperate placentas that had fused together...

The boys are 1 lb 14oz and 1 lb 13 and my cervix is now 2.8.  I just wish I hadn't gotten that dumb fFn...

My Peri thought my girls were identical, even monitored me for TTTS(part of the reason I stayed in the hospital for 3.5 weeks after my cerclage). There just wasn't enough room in there and they smooshed together....they are FRATERNAL!   My peri always has the placentas checked to make sure he knows this and if he could figure out what caused their IUGR.

you can never 100% know until they are born - if their blood type is different, or if you have them tested... because as you know- placentas can fuse.

my boys are 100% different in looks - and had different blood types- so we never have to do DNA testing.

i think they can test the placenta when you deliver... I think.... my peri says identical too and i asked if theres a chance that the placentas could have fused and they can be fraternal she said probably not and they can tell by the membrane..

My neighbor's twins turned out to be identical. They were in a similar situation, the peri really couldn't tell bc the placentas could have been fused together. They did the genetic testing after the boys were born and they are in fact identical.

My OB guessed fraternal b/c they had 2 completely separate sacs and she said that on her sono. equipment the placenta looked very thick indicating 2. At our Big U/S they confirmed 2 separate placentas b/c they said they were totally separate making it easy to tell.
