So...I registered at Segals for my baby shower in September of 2008. Long story short, after my shower I got into an argument with the owner (about the expensive nursery chair that my Mom bought) and he was SO rude to me that I told him I would never be back, and told all of my friends not to shop there. He was a total jerk to me, about something that was his fault, and he wouldn't fix it.
Last week in my mailbox was an envelope from Segal's. Inside was a gift card for $30 from my Grandma. I thought "how strange". Is this a late Christmas gift? Early 1st Birthday gift? So I opened up the card to see if there was a message. In there was a receipt showing that the card had been purchased for $30 and activated on...October 5, 2008.
What? Why did they send me a gift card from October of 2008, it's Febraury 2010? I was so confused. I called Segals and spoke with the manager, and asked that they please let me know why I just now got this gift, that was obviously intended for my baby shower, which was a year and a half ago.
The owner just called me. As soon as I heard his voice, I got angry before he even explained what happened. He was SUCH a jerk when I last spoke with him! Anyway he explained that for some reason the gift card was placed into a file by mistake, and they just found it, and still had my address from my registry, so just mailed it out. I told him while i was happy to finally get the gift, that I was pretty disappointed that there wasn't even an apology in the card, that my Grandma wanted this to be a shower gift, and now it's over a year and a half later, so ridiculous. He asked me if I had any use for the card now. I said "well I am planning on buying this thing, and you guys sell it, so I will apply the gift card towards that, I guess".
He offered me a 15% discount, which saves me $25! So between this gift card and his discount, I will be paying $100 for something that I needed to buy anyway, and was just getting ready to spend $160 on it!
Woot!
So, I'm happy.
