Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What are the rules about formula?

I have a prepared bottle of formula (I supplement) in the fridge that I'll need to take with me when I go out this afternoon.  DS will be fed approx 1.5 hours after we leave the house - will the formula be okay for that long?

  • yes, especially if it starts cold from the fridge.  24hrs in the fridge.  2 hrs at room temperature.  1 hr after they started eating it.

  • IMO - Yes, if it's cold then warmed once you reach your destination. When we go out, I warm a bottle of water and take the formula in my travel container then mix..definitely easier that way and no time worries. (altho, I believe it's only really supposed to be an hour once removed from the fridge, maybe 2).

  • my doc says an hour at room temp after prepared. But you can take a small ice pack (similac had them in their diaper bags we got from the doc give-a-ways) make it with cold water, and then reheat under hot running water in a bathroom somewhere. I've done this before - once it takes forever.

I have also filled a bottle with really hot water, put it in a foil warming pouch in our larger diaper bag, and after an hour it is still warm, but cool enough to drink - then i add the powder.

The best thing imo is ready made liquid formula. That stays room temp and you just put a nipple on it and feed it to them - no need to warm.

    hope that helps

This and if you ever need to be out longer use a lunch box and ice pack wish they had RTF of DS special formula mix...

I do this. I just take a lunch box and put an ice pack in with the bottle and it stays nice a cool before I prepare it. I also have a bottle warmer in my vehicle. It's nice to be prepared just in case.
