ugh, PUPPP... suggestions?

So apparently I am one of the lucky 5% of pregnant women who get PUPPPs. Has anyone dealt with this, and do you have any suggestions? The pain and itching are practically unbearable (especially at night for some reason).

I've tried hydrocortisone cream, Benadryl, Tylenol, and a million other things, and nothing seems to relieve the pain or itching for more than maybe a few minutes. My OB has me using over-the-counter stuff right now, but I've read there are prescriptions that help-- did you get a script, and did it help?

Re: ugh, PUPPP... suggestions?

  • I had PUPPS from 37-40 weeks. It was HELL especially at night. Benadryl cream helped as did taking Benadryl. My OB suggested Sarna lotion, which burned, at least it was a different sensation than itching. Get the unscented kind if you try it. I kept a cooler of towels in ice water next to the bed and kept changing the one that was over my belly. It was horrible. I am sorry that you have to deal with this. Hopefully they will be born at 37 weeks and 0 seconds. I remember that as each day passed, I was so itchy I couldn't believe that I was still pregnant.

  • Mine was the same way.  It was worse at night, especially when I got stressed.  I ended up having to get a prescription from my dermatologist to take care of it.  It really did help.  Regular hydrocortizone did nothing.  It did take a few weeks to completely go away, but the itching was so much better.

  • This is the worst. I'm so sorry you got it. I had it for 6 long weeks. The only thing that helped me was Gold Bond Medicated Spray and  Sarna Lotion. And when you are in the hospital for labor or monitoring, have them wrap pillow cases around the straps that are against your belly so they aren't right against your skin. Good luck to you!
