My 10 year college reunion is coming up in the fall and all my closest friends are going with their kids. In theory, I love the idea of packing my family up and flying to Tennessee. In practice, I think this could turn into a horror scenario.
Has anyone travelled with their multiples and how do you make this work?
Re: How do you travel?
Once the twins are here, we'll be doing driving only for the forseeable future. Having an older DD factors in, though, because one person can't hold 2 babies. I'd certainly never be able to fly all 3 by myself when DH deploys.
That doesn't include the cost of 5 tickets, either, once the twins hit 2. :-)
We have only done 2 car trips so far. I will be flying in April (my mom is going to fly with me so that each of us can have a lap baby).
The car trips went GREAT!! One was 4 hours away and the other was 12.5 hours away!! my best tip is to stop at hotels whenever you need to change/feed/stretch them. We would go, for ex., to a Hampton Inn off an exit vs. a gas station or fast food place. The hotel lobbies were clean and more spacious. We'd simply ask the front desk if it was ok and they always welcomed us!
I was still pumping both trips so I'd just use batteries in my pump and cover myself with a hooter hider thing so trucks didn't get a peep show! I carried a cooler of my milk and also had Similac ready-to-use formula bottles as back ups. So easy and convenient!!!
For travel beds, we just brought our PNP and it worked great in the hotels.
GL!!
Traveling with twins CAN be a headache at times, but it is definitely "doable." I know a lot of people were talking about road trips...based on your info, it sounds like you are currently in Denver and would be traveling to TN? That would be a REALLY long road trip. Flying with twins really isn't all that bad.....the younger they are, the easier it is.
Would it be you, your DH, and the kids? As long as you have someone else going with you, I don't think there's any reason why you couldn't make it work. The fact that you are traveling within the country makes it easier, because you can easily buy whatever you need for the babies once you get there (diapers, wipes, formula, baby food, etc.)
We travel a lot with our twins. We live in Southern Cali and they are 18 months old now. We've taken them to Cancun (2nd trip there next week), Maui, Philadelphia (family there...4 trips), Las Vegas (many times), Sacramento (family there....5 times). Once you just do it and start traveling with them, it gets easier and easier each time, and you just develop your own system that works.
It sounds like going to TN for your reunion would be lots of fun...especially since a lot of other people are bringing their kids. If you can swing it, I'd definitely try to go! Good Luck!
