Pineapple after IUI or just IVF?

I have heard people recommend eating pineapple after having an IVF procedure.  I'm having back to back IUIs this week--will pineapple do anything for me? would I eat it right after the IUIs or later as I get closer to when implantation would be?

Re: Pineapple after IUI or just IVF?

  • It is actually pineapple core that has the Bromelain enzyme in it...not just the pineapple.  I read (on the internet, so who knows if it is reliable), that you should peel a whole pineapple and then cut it into 5 round slices, leaving the core intact.  Then eat one of the slices each day beginning with the day of your embryo transfer.  I couldn't stand the thought of chewing on pineapple core so I threw it in the blender with a banana, vanilla soy milk (you could use regular milk), honey, orange juice, and ice.  It was delish!  I figured it couldn't hurt, so why not?!

If I were going to eat it for an IUI cycle and I had to guess, I would start 3-5 days from the insemination.  That would be about equal to the timing of an embryo transfer.  The info on the internet specifically said not to start the pineapple core too early...not sure why.  It just said that it can really boost your implantation of an embryo, but only if the core is eaten FRESH, and only eaten after O and after successful fertilization.

    Good luck!
