MGH Labor & Delivery Suites

I was wondering if anyone had given birth at MGH and wouldn't mind telling me about the Labor & Delivery suites there . That section of the website has been down for a while and I was going to ask my Dr about them at my last appointment, but he was running 1.5 - 2 hours behind so I ended up seeing another Dr  who stayed late after seeing all of his patients to see some of the overflow and I didn't want to take up any more of his time. Anyway, I am just curious, especially since I have been reading a lot more into different birthing plans and really would like to try for a water birth and basically just want to know if that would be possible there. Thanks in advance!

Re: MGH Labor & Delivery Suites

  • I believe that Mt. Auburn (with the midwives) or the North Shore Birth Center in Beverly are the only places that do birth in water, though many other hospitals have labor tubs.

  • I gave birth there last month.  There was a bath tub in the bathroom of the delivery suite(I think)  but I'm not so sure how they'd feel about a water birth.  I would ask your Ob if it's important to you.   It's a pretty 'medical' place which suited me...

Otherwise it was very nice.  I had big private rooms, my husband had somewhere to sleep, good food, nice nurses, can't really complain.
