Pregnant after a Loss

Backaches

Ow my lower back is killing me today! It started last night and DH gave me a back massage. I woke up at 5 am and could not get comfortable. My legs feel achy too. Of course I get freaked out because my m/c started with major back pain, but with spotting. I felt a little better reading my 17 week update on my fertility friend pregnancy page - it said I may start having backaches, especially if I'm standing a lot, and I spent 3-4 hours out shopping yesterday.

Anyone else around 17w getting (or had) backaches? What helps them for you?

Re: Backaches

  • Throughout this pregnancy (starting about 19 weeks) I've been able to enjoy the wonder that is sciatica.  When it hits me, it is crippling and brings me to tears.  The only thing that helps is heat and to just lie down and NOT MOVE at all.  Once baby moves, it goes away completely.  It's hit me about 5 times since around 19 weeks, and I'm always scared that it's going to hit again.  I do have general back aches that are not sciatica related, just muscle tension.  Those last longer and are harder to get rid of.  Heat helps and so do the icy hot patches and hot baths.

Unfortunately - I can't say that it gets any better!

  • I noticed that after 4 hours of shopping yesterday too that my whole body was way more sore than I expected. Even on the car ride DH mentioned how fidgety I was being because I was just trying to get comfortable.

I haven't found anything really that helps in the moment, but now that I am rested a little bit, everything feels a little better.

  • I was having backaches, I believe from a combination of sleeping weird and lugging around a backpack on campus all day.  Then I bought a Snoogle and my whole life changed.  Stick out tongue  If you don't alreay have one, maybe that would help?  Oh, and also the massages from DH should keep on comin'.
  • My cousin suggested a Snoogle too. I have just been using a king sized pillow at night. I'll have to look into this Snoogle.

I know I'm sitting wrrong when I am laying around at night - my back isn't getting much support so I have to be more conscious about that!

  • My back kills me at night, sometimes several pillows help, sometimes not. I notice my back starts to ache if I'm sitting too long at work, so I'll get up, walk around and stretch out. A warm shower has helped also (it has also helped with the headaches). Oh yeah, and when DH feels like it, a massage feels great! Good luck & hope you find some relief!
