Minnesota Babies

Sticky Situation

Okay so my best friend is getting married at the end of July and I am one of her bridesmaids. I will be almost 8 months pregnant, and she has decided she wants all of her bridesmaids to do a choregraphed dance. I feel like she is a little put off that I cannot commit to doing this dance and I'm not sure how to get through. She has has a baby and so I figured she would understand but she seems like she thinks that I should be able to do it? Help?

Re: Sticky Situation

  • I'm not sure exactly what your friend is looking to do, but would it be at all possible to see if you could introduce the dance? Or add small things in throughout the dance (i.e. props, holding up a sign, a few small little dance moves?) I'm just thinking of things that would still have you involved, but not doing the whole dance. I completely understand why you don't want to! But also try to remember her side of it, she is the bride and has in her mind exactly how she wants to it be done.

  • In all honesty, depending on what exactly you mean by choreographed dance, I don't really see the big deal. If there aren't flips and stuff in it, you should be fine. At almost 8 months, you'll most likely actually be feeling pretty decent. But, I won't even broach the subject of how stupid I feel choreographed wedding party dances are...

  • Wow...this is a new one for me.  I've never heard of humiliating your friends by making them do a dance in your honor at your wedding.  I guess it would be one thing if the bridesmaids came up with it on their own, but to ask this of your friends...????

I'd say something like: I'm sure you remember what it was like being 8 months pregnant, so please try to understand that I'm just not comfortable committing to something that obviously means so much to you.  Maybe we can come up with some other way that I can help out?

GL - I wouldn't want to do it either - pregnant or not!
