LO eating questions if any of you EBF past 6 mos (no bottles)

I have a horrible memory....have any of you SAHM's EBF past 6mos? I mean very few bottles if any at all.

I am just curious if it is possible and realistic to do this until 1 year, and at which point will he eat more solids and drink less milk.

I feel like he eats ALL day! He also started picking up an additional feeding during the night, I am trying to nip that one in the butt!

His schedule is.....

4am ish -nurse

7:30am-nurse

9am-solids

10:30/11am-nurse

12/1pm-solids

sometime between 2 and 4-nurse

5:30/6-solids

7/7:30-nurse

......and an occasional 11pm nursing

Is this normal eating patterns?

  • Well, C had bottles at daycare, but of BM, he never had any formula.

That sounds like a completely normal schedule to me!

  • Sounds fine to me.  DD cut down to 4 nursings around 6 months, and I was really worried that she wasn't getting enough.  We just upped the solids and she's done fine.  I think if you wanted to drop a session or two he's old enough that he could handle it, especially the 4am one.

We are still EBFing and I can't believe it's been going so well.  We are at the point now where I think shes eating more than shes nursing, and I think she will definitely be ready to wean by 1.  As proud of myself as I am that I stuck with the BFing, I am so ready to be done!

  • We did a bottle of BM every night, but I don't know if you were thinking formula.

That sounds like a pretty normal schedule to me.

  • I EBF till right around 6 months, and that is similar to what our typical schedule was.
  • Bri is still EBF, she used to take a bottle (of BM) when we were out, but refuses it now.  She just will hold off eating until we get home, sometimes 4-5 hours between eating.  Just will make up for it nursing a bit longer some other time.  Tyler was EBF until 7 months when I realized my freezer stash went bad and I didn't respond to a pump anymore.  Maybe once or twice a week we would give him a bottle of formula when either we were out or I wasn't home.  I think I went through one small canister of formula a month, alot of it wasted.  He never had issues taking a bottle.  And self weaned from nursing slowly between 11months old and his first birthday.
  • Skroops did. Its definitley possible. It seems like you and ryan don't have many struggles with BFing so I don't see any reason why you couldn't.

  • DS BF (and I couldn't get him to take a bottle at all) about every 2-3 hours until about 9-10 months. And at about 4-5 I started cereal and then slowly fruit and vegetables 1 new one a week. He liked them, but wanted to drink. And he was having sippy cups of water and apple juice around 8 months. At about 10 months I started spacing feedings out more mostly because I was going crazy and my body couldn't take it anymore. By 11 months I had him down to 3 a day. And he gave up BF a few days before his birthday. I just started cutting out feedings and giving him whole milk, and he skipped the last 2 days when we were down to one, so then I was dried up so he couldn't have it if he wanted.
