Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Need ideas for "big boy bed"---share yours....

I think we're getting closer and closer to needing a big boy bed--so I kind of want to get one to have....but not sure what to do.  Converting his crib to a toddler bed seems like it's just too high for him still (even on lowest setting--plus we'd need it for baby #2 should that ever happen).....

So we're thinking of moving right to a twin size.  But then I saw these cool twin bunk beds and thought--that might be neat.....especially if we want to have another child.  The bunks come apart and then you have two twins.

I'm lost.......how did you decide and how did you transition?

  • I plan to go to that kind of twin bunk beds when we do transition to real beds.  My hope is that the boys will WANT to share a room someday, but then they'd also have a few options with the beds, you know?  Or it might be good for sleepovers or something. IDK.

No clue on the transition.  I hope we don't have to worry about that for a looooong time (but I doubt that will be the case).

I saw these cute bunks that you can buy a slide for----how cool would that have been???  Or you can make in to a castle---or a tent-like thingy.  Just super cool.

  • I think it's the season for big boy beds.  There were a bunch of questions about them yesterday.  Here's what I wrote in on of the posts:

We just switched DS to a twin mattress on the floor.  He wasn't a climber, but was just getting too tall for his crib.  We put his mattress in his room a few weeks before we switched him over.  I think it really helped him to get used to it.  We started by doing naps in his bed.  Then, last Friday, we decided it was time to try bedtime.  We just did all of the regular routines we do for bedtime, but put him in his bed rather than his crib.  He did great - only woke up a few times and didn't play with anything.  The routine definitely cued him in that it was bedtime.

     Good luck!
