Weaning

I am trying to wean from BFing and pumping.  I am just giving DS bottles of frozen milk.  This morning I can tell I'm full and one of my breasts is leaking a little.  Should I pump or wait until it hurts?  I really want weaning to go as fast as possible so I don't want to signal to my body to make more.  Thoughts?  TIA

Re: Weaning

  • I would checkout kellymom.com or LLL website. I haven't started to wean yet but I do know that you could slightly pump just to be less engorged but no enough for your body to relactate. I heard that cabbage leaves also help with the engorgement.

  • You can check those sites but you have to do what makes you feel comfortable.  What I did was went out and grabbed some gerber gel packs and froze them.  Then I would wait until I just couldn't take it anymore and HAD to pump something out but I only pumped a little for relief.  Eventually your boobs will realize that they don't need all the milk and will not produce as much.  It takes a few days, but it's worth it to not be in pain the whole time.  Also, wear a tight fitting sport bra (as tight as you can stand it).  Between relief pumps I would put the gel packs in and walk around the house with bumpy boobs, lol.  This is just what worked for me... so it all depends on what you can tolerate.
