So, I don't want to self-diagnose myself, and I have an OB appointment today, so I'll discuss with my Doc, but I wanted to see if any of you know what gallbladder pain feels like?
Mine is not a constant pain.. it comes and goes. The only thing that's constant is that it's ALWAYS on my right side. The best way I can describe it is that right along my bra line, I feel like I am being squeezed. It's not a sharp pain - it's more like a dull pain, as if my bra is on way too tight. I've gone braless, but it does nothing. I've tried resting on pillows on that side - again, it does nothing. Sometimes I feel the pain closer to my boob, and other times, it seems to be around my side to my back. I know what contractions feel like, and these pains definitely aren't contractions. This pain is above my bottom few rib bones.
ANy of you feel anything similar?
Re: Anybody know what gallbladder pain feels like?
Good thinking.. I remember when she had her surgery. I'll look for her!
When I passed gallstones I had a low-grade fever, the pain was on my right flank, but also close to my belly button (this probably wouldn't be the case at this point in in the pregnancy. I wasn't pregnant when I had the gallstones.) And the pain was definitely colicky: coming and going in waves.
WebMD it!
This sounds like the beginning of gallbladder pain, but the problem is that it can feel like a lot of other things during PG. It's good that you're seeing your doctor today - they usually diagnose gallbladder problems like gallstones using ultrasound. I don't know if they can do it so late in pregnancy when LO is squishing the internal organs, though.
I had gallstones pre-PG and surgery to remove my gallbladder. Mine started out as pain that comes and goes, but over time got to be really acute and unbearable.
For me it felt like I hadn't eaten in days, even when I did eat. Combined with having to do to the bathroom, but not being able to go. I also had some nausea. It is like a dull ache in your stomach. I would definetly talk to your dr about it because they are no fun.
My pain was horrendous. I had several attacks before we figured out what it was. It was a horrible sharp pain that would last for several hours and then finally go away. Think of the excruciating pain that people with appendicitis have. I couldn't even move hardly or stand/sit up. I would just lay in bed or on the couch in a ball. My pain was lower than where you're describing, but I wasn't pregnant. I went to the ER, and they found A LOT of gallstones and I had emergency surgery to have my gallbladder removed. That's probably why mine was so painful. You may just be in the beginning stages. But, it could also be a pulled muscle or a sign of pre-e. So, it's good you're going to your doctor today.
On a side note: when I had my gallbladder issues, I called my aunt who is a doctor and told her I was sure something needed to be removed because it just hurt too bad. She laughed at me and told me I was overreacting. Sure enough, something DID need to be removed. LOL!
I had mine out pre-PG but I had a lot of pain in the area you described as well as nausea. I couldn't eat much except applesauce because I felt so sick all the time. The pain comes and goes, though. It also would depend on if you have stones or sludge. I had mobile sludge so they didn't do anything about it for about a month (I was diagnosed 1.5 weeks before my wedding so they waited until after my honeymoon to remove it). If it is your gall bladder, they may not do anything about it. Sometimes gall bladder problems only show up in pregnancy and then they go away after you give birth.
Good luck!
Mine was like this too, but I didn't have emergency surgery. I was curled up in a ball on the floor the pain was so bad, and nothing made it feel better. I heard labor is less painful than a gallbladder attack. I really hope that is the case, because the gallbladder attack REALLY hurt!
Well, that's good to hear. Because I thought I was dying. So, if labor isn't has bad as that I'm good to go
I was also telling my friend that I'm sort of feeling like I may end up with a c-section since I have high bp issues and they will deliver the baby early. I told her I've already had abdominal surgery before, so the c-section and recovery really doesn't scare me like it does with a lot of people.
