Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DS is refusing to eat - why?

Well, he'll drink formula - but he usually has 8oz and now he pushes the bottle away after only about 5oz.  He doesn't want purees at all, and will only eat a few puffs and yogurt melts before refusing those, as well.

He has an ear infection, but he's had them before and it's never caused him to refuse to eat.  He's on a different antibiotic this time and it's causing him to have crazy diarrhea, so I suppose it could just be that his tummy doesn't feel quite right...or is he just going through a phase?  Or maybe he's done with all the "baby" stuff and wants "real food?"

What's your best guess?

Re: DS is refusing to eat - why?

  • My DS dropped eating about 1-2 ounces each bottle for a week when he was teething. It lasted 5 days, then a tooth cut his gums. He would still eat solids like a  champ.

  • B did this with his bottles before and would only eat purees because it hurt his ears to 'suck' but hmm .. I might call the advice nurse at your Pedi tomorrow morning just to find out what they think is going on!  Try some table food cut up really small .. maybe he's ready for bigger and better things!? Smile

  • I would guess teething...some babes get diarrhea.  Good luck and hang in there.
