I was driving back from lunch today and listening to
105.1 The Buzz on our local Portland radio. Every year they do a 28 hour marathon broadcast that benefits the
Children's Cancer Association. This year, as I am about to be a parent myself I am more touched than ever with the stories of these brave children and their parents.
The story that really "did me in" was from a mother who just put her daughter into hospice care after fighting cancer for 2 years. The little girl is 5. I had to pull into a 7-11 parking lot to cry my ever-loving eyes out. Seriously, I was sobbing. I just cannot imagine.
So I went straight back to the office and called 1(877) 656-5437 to donate. The donation I chose to participate in was called the 105'er. Basically you pledge to donate $105 over the course of the next 12 months. That breaks down to $8.75 a month. I pledged 2, one for me and one for Oskar. I am not wealthy by any means, but I do know that this organization does so much for families dealing with the unimaginable.
If you have an extra $8.75 a month, and it's burning a whole in your pocket... maybe you should call the number above and help the CCA??
I do not get up on a soapbox very often. Thanks for listening.
