If you nursed both twins at once...

This is similar to the glider we already have:  https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3711245

Do you think I can nurse both babies at one time in this chair? I have the EZ 2 Nurse pillow, but it's hard to try out with my huge belly, and I don't really know where to position it. My dilemma is whether or not to get a bigger cushier chair for the nursery.  Money is somewhat tight, so if it's do-able and comfortable enough, then I'll just keep this chair, otherwise I can get a cushier chair for about $225.  What do you think?

  • I really don't see how that would work. When I tandem BFed, it was always either in bed sitting against the headboard, on the couch (and I'd have a baby in a Boppy on either side of me to get them in and out of position) or sitting on the floor with my back against the couch. You also have to figure out how you'd get your LOs in and out of position, which is why the couch, loveseat or bed is good. (Or floor if you have something for your back. :))

I agree with this.  I always tandem nurse on the bed, especially now that they are getting bigger. Its nice to have the large space on either side of you to set the babies down or re-position.  I have also nursed in our big family room chair and it went ok but I had no where to put one baby when they were done nursing and had to yell for my husband to come and get her (or him, I forget which one now, lol)

  • I'm not a big fan of tandem nursing... I like having one on one time with my girls and they don't eat as well because they distract each other.  That being said there are times when it is more convenient or necessary if they are both starving- I can't tandem on the couch anymore because it's not deep enough and the pillow doesn't reach my stomach.  It's the floor or the bed.  If I were you I would invest in some big comfy pillows for when you are sitting on the floor...
  • I don't see how that would work.  I tandem at times, not all the time and with the arms on that chair I am not sure it would work.  I do it sitting on the couch with a pillow behind me and the Ez2 nurse pillow.  I put two Bobbies, one on each side of me and each baby in each boppy and then lift them onto the pillow and go.  We have a leather rocker recliner and I don't use it to nurse.
  • I also don't think that will work for you.  The EZ 2 Nurse actually says to nurse on a couch/bed/etc. that has a wide enough space.  When I use the pillow and nurse our girls on the couch, I even stuff a pillow under each side so that I feel that they're secure enough.

When both babies are laying on the pillow and you're latching the first, it would be very easy for the 2nd to possibly roll off the pillow... so it's best if you're on a wider, softer surface just in case ; )

  • Honestly, I always sat on the floor when I tandem nursed.  I don't think that glider would work because it does take some logistics to get them both on the pillow.

  • I don't think it is wide enough.  I had, at times, used the ez2nurse in my "extra wide" dutalier glider before bed once I started having trouble keeping two squirmy babies put while sitting on the floor in their room.  It was a tight squeeze (had to push the sides down) and it required DH handing me the babies and taking them off...

Now before bed I just feed one at a time in their room...

  • the armrests on that think look very uncomfortable! It looks like you'd get a giant mark on your arm nursing just one baby in that thing.
  • I'm not sure about the chair, but I wanted to give you the heads up suggestion of the My Brest Friend TWINS support pillow.  It's a new product, so I'm not sure how many people know about it.

My babies were born on Saturday, we have been home for about a day and a half now and I have been tandem feeding.   Soooooo much easier with this twin pillow.  Check it out.

  • I know you want to be prepped, but I would say wait and see if tandom nursing works for you and your twins.  I was determined to do it before they were here and practically harrassed the LC in the hospital to help me do it - it was my goal to nurse them together before I was discharged.  Well, it never happened - the three of us just couldn't make it work.  In the 8 months of BFing, I can count the time we tandom nursed on 1 hand.  What did work for us was having 2 boppys - I would sit on the floor nursing one on the boppy, the other baby in boppy on floor next to me while I held the bottle.  My recommendation - especially if $ is tight - is wait, you'll find something that will work for you :)

  • I read this book called "oh yes you can breastfeed twins".  She recommends tandem feeding on a love seat/couch where you can position the babies next to you.  I'm not there yet as you can see.. just trying to prepare myself for June.  The book was an excellent read. Hope this helps you out some.
