I am totally jumping in late on this, but I was reading all of the previous posts. I really hope I'm not stirring the pot, but I want to share this because it makes me scratch my head.
Let's say you are enrolling your child who was born in Mexico. In the state of Georgia, when you enroll your child in school, you have to check an Ethnicity box for whether your child is Hispanic/Latino. However, being Hispanic or Latino is an ETHNICTY - not a race. If you check that they are Hispanic/Latino, you then have to check what race they are - American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander or White.
This new system is so confusing for everyone involved.
Re: The way the state of Georgia defines Hispanic...
After all of Preppy's posts and this post, it seems to me that Georgia hasn't advanced much since Atlanta burned.
It would still be the same situation.
I've had so many parents tell me - but, we aren't any of those things...we are hispanic. I'm like, "I know....I don't know what to tell you..."
Here is what is on the Employment Application at my company. This is pretty standard for EEOP reporting.

Truer words have never been spoken.
Atlanta is one thing...outside of ATL? It is like a whole different state.
Hence why I always say "I miss the East Coast." Georgia is not at all what I expected...even though it has been a fun 4 years in ATL.
This makes sense. This is how we use to do it...
