how do you feel about oysters on the half shell?

Has anyone tried them?

Have you made them at home?

How did you make them?

Were they good?

I may try to make them for V Day! Since I know I like them but not sure if DH has had them.

    I got hooked at 14 when my mom made me try them.

    I've only had them at nice restaurants.

  • I have only had them once and I was completely turned off by them. The ones I had were terrible and sandy.

  • LOVE. I haven't prepared them at home but if you do, make sure you also have proper condiments (e.g. champagne vinegar, horseradish, cocktail sauce, etc)
  • I haven't had them in a long time, but I liked them!  I've also never made them, I ate them at a bar (chilled, with no condiments).

  • Love them, but I wouldn't do them at home.  I'm quite certain I wouldn't be able to open them without seriously hurting myself.

  • I love oysters, but have never done them at home in the kitchen. We have big oyster roasts around here, and do them in the backyard.

    I know they are supposed to be sexy, but it's impossible to see when I am used to standing there with a towel and an oyster knife, and juice running off my elbows. yum yum yum.  

    How about Oysters Rockefeller? I have had those in restaurants and they are good. 

  • I love them and cannot wait until I can eat them again.  I didn't get to say a proper goodbye to them, LOL.

    We have tried to do them at home and they were a biiitch to open.  I thought my H was going to slice his hand off.  I recommend just going out for them.

  • OMG i love them. i told H that i want a dozen raw oysters IN THE HOSPITAL after i give birth.

    i like the mignonette sauce on them but i have to say my fav way of eating them is iwth a hot sauce, cocktail sauce and a dash of lemon.

    if you make them at home make sure it is from a reputable good fish store. tell them you plan on eating them raw on the half shell

    now i really want them. i hate you.

  • Love them.  I slurp 'em down like a champ.

    I have made them at home, but you need a VERY good seafood market (or a Whole Foods) and a shucker.  Be careful b/c it's very easy to cut yourself while shucking.

    That sounds way dirtier than I imagined.

    Sadie is not impressed.

    How did you make them? On the half shell is raw, so I normally have DH shuck them and I serve them on ice with horserashish and crackers

    I have also made oysters Rockefeller and it turned out good :)
