Middle name

so we have had his middle name picked out for some time now but MIL keeps bringing it up. Is Gauge such a bad middle name. Shes mad about the spelling. Whats the big deal i just dont get it.

Thats what shes having a fit about. But hubbys into hunting and guns. Thats here the spelling for Gauge comes into play.

I read Gauge and I think of pressure gauges and knitting and measurement, "gauging by your response...". I don't immediately think of gun gauge. I personally wouldn't name my child after the size of a gun but we're not a hunting family. 

Since it is his middle name and if it means so much to you then I think the spelling is fine. I wouldn't if it was his first name.

I have a friend who's childs name is Gage.  Gauge is like a tire gauge.  Spell it Gage for sure...

But it's nms...

Yeah, good name - not such a good spelling.

Gauge is not a name. It is an object, or at best a verb. Gage is better.
