How long can you keep an open can of powdered formula?

DS has gone through five different kinds of formula. Right before we switched to Nutragimen, he was on GS Soy and we had just opened a large can. I mean, we only made two bottles out of it.

I heard somewhere you can only keep it for 30 days after you open it. Is this true?

I thought if we can keep it that his stomach may eventually be able to handle formula other than Nutragimen.

that's what i heard too. i wonder if you can store it in the fridge if that would make any difference?

i hate the fact that formula has so many "rules and regulations" to it.

Why can't it be more like BREASTMILK?  frustrating.

This. Can you try mixing it with the other formula? Start w/ a 1/2 scoop or so, and increase the amount if LO tolerates it?

Thank you for posting this! I have a sample can of formula that we use to supplement DS every once in awhile (we've made maybe 4 or 5 bottles), and it's been sitting in our cabinet for about a month now...I never even thought about it expiring!

I did look on the can. Didn't see anything about discarding after a certain time opened. It just has a use by date.

So frustrated!  I didn't know about this!  I rarely supplement with formula, but this is something no one ever mentioned!  I suppose I should have read the label, but I saw the expiration date and thought that was it!  Unfortunately I did give DS a couple of bottles after the month was up.  Fortunately, I think it was just a couple of times and he never was sick or anything like that.  I bought these huge cans thinking they would last me a while.  Next time I open one, I'll be sure to use it within a month.  I guess I shouldn't be so lazy and just pump more!  *Sigh!*
