TTC after 35

I don't know what to do next

I came off OCPs in December 2009, and I actually had a normal period after 30 days in January (lasted 3 days, arrived at an appropriate time).  Based on a 30 day cycle (I have no comparisons since this is the first time off OCPs since my early 20s), AF should have come 4 days ago.  My crazy self tested a day after AF should have come, and I got a BFN.   I also have a history of PCOS.  I don't know what to do from here.  Just keep waiting to see if AF finally gets here?  Re-test in a few days?  I am trying not to be too hopeful since my cycle is probably a mess because of the years of OCPs and my PCOS.  I am driving myself crazy and trying not to be too obsessive about every single symptom.  I "feel" like I am getting AF repeatedly through the day and am always running to the ladies room to check.  UGH.  Thank you for your thoughts!

Re: I don't know what to do next

  • I'm sorry you're stressing I know AF playing games makes us all crazy. On the other hand every time I have been pregnant I feel like I'm getting AF symptoms for the first few weeks of pregnancy, so this could be a good sign. Definitely test again in a few days.
  • Thank you for your support =)  Much appreciated!

  • Since you just came off bcp, you don't really know what is a normal cycle for you yet. I would keep testing until BFP or AF. If you don't get AF after 60 days, give your Dr. a call.

You may want to try charting. This way, you know when you O'd so you know when to expect AF.

    Good luck!

  • As Holly said, given you don't know what your cycle is yet, I'd test, wait a few days, test again until AF or the test is a postive.

What is important in the ttc journey is knowing when you ovulate (cycle length means nothing really). Charting can tell you when you ovulate. www.fertilityfriend.com Or at least start with some OPKs.

In can take quite a few months for a cycle to regulate coming off BCP.

    GL to you.

  • Agree with other posts. I was on bc for at least 20 years and it took a few months to really get a feel for what my cycles were. Keep testing until BFP or AF and if no AF within two weeks I'd put a call into your dr. Good luck hopfully you get a BFP.
