Similac Sensitive vs. Good Start Gentle Plus

I use Similac Sensitive and add 2 tbs. of rice cereal per 4-5oz of formula (per Pedi).  My LO is having a horrible time going to the bathroom for the past week and even had a slight fever (99.9).  I thought it might be due to the iron in the rice cereal but she has also been very gassy and fussy (which is what Similac Sensitive is supposed to prevent).  I was looking at switching to Good Start Gentle Plus because it says that it will help with digestion.  Has anyone switched from Similac Sensitive or use Good Start Gentle Plus and if so, how does your LO like it? Plan on calling the Pedi but when I do I always talk to the same nurse who doesn't seem to know what she's talking about so I thought I'd ask you ladies.  TIA

Re: Similac Sensitive vs. Good Start Gentle Plus

  • I started LO out with Good Start Protect Plus (the green can) & then switched him to Good Start Gentle Plus (the orange can) b/c that is what my insurance covered & I figured it might be almost the same thing ..(which it is except the green can is a bit better with the digestive system) anyway, he had no problem switching. Good Start was also his 1st formula. Never tried other brands .... He does very well with the formula & hasn't had any problems so I'm guessing its a good one for him!

  • We plan to switch to Good Start soon, from Similac Sensitive. I read the label and they sound very similar. And the pedi said it shouldn't be a big deal.

    I anticipate no problems.?

  • We switched from Enfamil Premium Lipil to Good Start Gentle Plus because she spit up constantly with the Enfamil.  She tolerates the Good Start very well.
    bishes be crazy
  • We were using Good Start Gentle Plus for about a month, but after I stopped bfing my dd started spitting up a lot, even an hour or two after eating. She would choke and gag on her spit up. At first I thought she needed to get used to just eating formula because when I bf I supplemented with the formula. I thought her little tummy had to get used to just eating formula, but after awhile I got tired of seeing her so uncomfortable.

I made the switch to Similac Sensitive 2 weeks ago and she's doing better. Still spits up a little, but no more choking and gagging. A thing to remember is that Gentle Plus is milk-based, whereas Similac Sensitive is not.

  • the above answer is wrong. Similac Sensitive IS milk based...it is just lactose free. Good Start is also milk based but it is not lactose free. my baby girl did much better on good start. good start is made with 100% whey proteins whereas similac is made with casein and whey...
