Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Did your pedi ok everything but nuts and honey at 12mo appt.?

Ours did but I swear my friend told me her pedi said no on strawberries? I'm all for giving them to her, but I'm just curious what other pedis have said.

  • mine said everything is fine except for peanuts, but the peanut issue is debatable for me

  • No nuts, honey or shellfish. Everything else is fair game.
  • ours okayed peanut butter but, Emerson didn't eat and still doesn't.  We had to get something in her.

  • She said no honey or peanut butter for us. My DS has reactions to strawberries but they were never on the no list.

  • DD's doctor said that honey and nuts were fine at her one year appointment, as well as everything else.
  • Pedi said no peanut butter, honey, or fish yet
  • Ours said ALL was fine except PB and shellfish. She said all other nuts and seafood were OK, as were honey and strawberries. DD looooves honey and fish....
  • Hmmm...we got the go-ahead for PB honey and everything else, but to watch hard things because of the choking risk (like peanuts, that you can't crush between your fingers), until he gets his next set of molars.

This is amazing the variety in Pedi advice.  I would have though there would be more of a standard recommended diet.

  • we got "no" for strawberries as well, but we had already been giving them to DS that we just ignored that one.

  • Our (ex) pedi said all food was fine, except whole nuts and bacon, because they are choking hazards.

I'm yet to figure out WHY he thinks those are the only potential choking hazards?

  • Ours said she could have anything.

  • man... ours never said anything about "don't give her ________ yet"...

I did give her a taste of peanut butter once... all was well.  Haven't even thought of giving her shellfish or honey though.

  • Mine ok'd everything but nuts & honey at 9 months, then just nuts at 12 months.
  • At the 12mo appt, she said everything was fine except for fish, peanut products, and some third thing which I am forgetting at this moment...

Out of desperation, I broke down and gave her peanut butter a few months ago in an attempt to get her to eat something at that point, and it worked for a little while... She has also had salmon at this point but we're not fish/seafood eaters at all so it's not something that she'll end up having regularly...

OK... this has nothing related to this post... but I just had to say that your DD is adorable!  And... my DD wore that exact same dress and sweater that yours has on in the pic for Christmas :)  Except she had the red sweater instead of the cream one... LOL  too cute!

we have been giving DD strawberries for MONTHS!!!

  • Yes, DS eats everything except nuts and honey.
  • The only thing he said was no nuts. He said if we had a history of shellfish allergies in our family, he'd hold off on those, but we don't.

What is the deal with strawberries? I've never heard that.
