Anyone have a subchorionic hematoma?

I had some brown bleeding today and just got back from my ultrasound- apparently I have a subchorionic hematoma. My doctor said I actually have a couple of clots, moderately sized. The baby looked great, we could see it moving around and the heart rate was normal but I definitely didn't feel reassured about my prognosis after talking to the doctor.

Anyone have any experience with this?

  • I don't... but i wonder if that is what's going on with me. I had some heavy bleeding last night, but when to the dr. today the the u/s looks good. She didn't mention anything about this, but in looking it up online it sounds like a possibilitiy.

It sounds like it generally resolves itself....

    What are your symptoms?

  • I had SCH when pregnant with DS and with this LO.  This time was much worse than the last.  I was walking out of a store and felt a huge gush.  Within minutes my jeans were soaked through with blood.  I thought I was m/c again for sure.  After I passed a pretty sizable clot--the bleeding trailed off then stopped.  I went to the dr. to make sure LO was ok and everything looks good.  My dr. said that they will keep and eye on the SCH to make sure that it is shrinking.  Sometime your body just absorbs the bleed other time it will bleed out.  Usually they resolve themselves and do not cause any other complications.
  • I had a small one at 8.5 weeks and had red bleeding for a couple of days.  I went for my 12 week scan this morning, and it had resolved itself.  Either it bled out or it reabsorbed.  Baby is fine!

  • I'm glad to hear of at least some positive outcomes...I just went to the bathroom and had red bleeding when before it was just brown. I knew that could happen, the doctor said to expect bleeding for the next couple of weeks but I'm so scared! I haven't had any symptoms other than today the slight cramping and spotting. I have another appointment on Monday and they said they'll do another ultrasound then just to check on things so I guess I just wait until then...
  • I had a SCH which started bleeding about 2 weeks ago. The bleeding just stopped today. It was red sometimes and dark brown sometimes.  I go tomorrow for another U/S to see if it is gone.

  • Good luck! I'm sure everything will be OK. I know everyone says some bleeding is normal, but it is still unnerving.  I wake up every morning nervous I'm going to have some too.
  • I replied to your XP on 3rd tri in more detail, but I had a major gushing blood episode from a subchorionic hemmorhage at about 7 weeks and spotted heavily for 9 weeks after that.  It was scary and unsettling, but everythign was always fine at every appointment and baby has always been just fine through it all. ;-)

    Hang in there!
