Stupid question: My husband and I are planning to start trying to conceive later this year and have not had full physicals in a while, so we want to get that taken care of first - should I go to an OB/GYN, a nurse practioner/midwife, or a primary care doctor for mine?
We just moved to MSP (we're in the SW Minneapolis/Edina area), so we don't have any physicians here that we have relationships with, so any recommendations of who to go to are also welcome!
Re: Pre-Conception Dr. Visits
When we decided to try I went in for an annual physical with my regular doc to make sure all systems were a go. Then I went in for my annual physical with my OB and added that I also needed a preconception visit. They tested my blood to make sure that some of my immunities were still working, pap, breast exam, etc. I'd recommend doing both, for me they did different things, and it doesn't hurt to have both your Obgyn and GP aware that you are TTC.
I see Dr. Lisa Baker with OGI (Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Infertility, PA). They have offices in both Edina and Maple Grove. I absolutely love then, and Dr. Baker is listed as one of the top 10 Obgyn docs by Twin Cities Magazine, as well as several of the other doctors in the practice. I just love it there! I would definitely talk to an OB/midwife and have them to a check up on you. You can get everything done, and talk about all of your options suggestions right there in one meeting.
