Travel system vs. separate car seats/stroller

I'm hoping to get some insight on the whole car seat/stroller, and the snap 'n go travel system.  My sister has been telling me from day 1 that I need to get the car seats that I can snap into the car, then remove and snap into the stroller.  She says this would be a life saver because it was a pain in the rear to move her sleeping baby from the car seat to a separate stroller.

I was looking at the travel systems that she was talking about, and the double strollers are so bulky, and from what I'm seeing I don't think it'll work well for twins.  I'm leaning towards a separate stroller and car seats.  Do you have any suggestions one way or the other?  I know it's a little different when it comes to two babies instead of one and thought I'd go to you for your experience of what works well, and what doesn't.  TIA!

  • I got the Kolcraft contours tandem with the Graco snugrides

  • We have a double snap and go so all we have to do is take the carriers out of the car and put them on the snap and go, we also have a tandem graco stroller that is much bulkier, we will use it at some point, but we will start with the snap and go when they get here. For carriers we have the graco snug rides, i just cant imagine taking them out of there car seats if they were sleeping, just to do some errands no need to disturb sleeping babies!

  • Thanks ladies!  I guess there are so many options out there and being new to all of this is a little overwhelming.  I want to make sure I get the right gear, and my head starts swimming sometimes making sure I'm getting all the right stuff.
  • We are getting the double snap n go with snugrides.  We are also getting a double umbrella type stroller for when they are a bit older and also a single umbrella stroller for outing with only one baby.

  • A lot of us used the Double Snap n Go with Graco Snugrides.

  • i would not buy a travel system - the strollers aren't the greatest... and there's no need for them - you can get a DSNG frame (used on craigslist for about $30-$40 bucks) and use that... or another stroller that you like more that fits 2 car seats (the Kolcraft Contours, City Select, and a few SBS's that do take 2 seats now)

I had a kolcraft contours and used that as a DSNG - it's the same length, but drives nicer... and can be a regular stroller with seats after.

i recently got the City Select but don't use it with infant seats b/c only one of mine is in the infant seat now... if i had it when they were born i would have used that with the infant seats- it's an amazing stroller.

  • First, IMO ALL double strollers are going to be big.  Second, your sister is right.  I would definitely get either a Kolcraft or DSNG and infant seats that will fit.  I have Baby Trend Flex Loc's and they fit well in either the Kolcraft of the DSNG.  GL.
  • I went and registered yesterday at BRU and looked at the DSNG.  In the end I was too concerned that it wouldn't be a good long term investment.  I found the Graco DuoGlider Stroller, it's a double stroller that can be used for long term, and it also accepts infant seats.  I registered for the matching Graco Snugrides.  I was really impressed with the stroller, it maneuvered really well, folded easily, it was easy to snap the seats into, and was fairly light for a double stroller.  GL!

  • We got a DSNG second hand for super cheap and will use that with the graco snugrides for a while. I'm also getting the bumbleride indietwin for walking in the city and through the park. I'll probably pick up a used double umbrella stroller to keep in the van for errands etc. I've even started thinking about having a single umbrella stroller on hand for the times when I've only got one kid with me.

DH is going to die when he sees the fleet of strollers I have planned for us. lol
