Older child = bigger room?

Do you think it matters? 4 yo DD is in the smaller room currently (but better view and bigger closet). 2yo DD is in the bigger room since it was better for a nursery.

The smaller room can only fit a twin bed, whcih we have in there with a trundle. We are planning to buy a double bed for the bigger room this fall (since we are losing our guest room to the live-in nanny).

Note: I am not too concerned about the issue at their current ages- more for when they are older as we plan to stay in this house until we are emptynesters.

  • You could always switch when they get older. I would leave it as is now. My sisters and I were always "trading" rooms growing up, I am sure they may want to do the same.

  • We have the older child in the small room with the big closet and twin bed and the younger one in the bigger room with the double bed and the little closet.  Our older is a girl and the younger a boy.  The closet is very important to a girl IMO, so that may make a difference in our case.  The room size works fine for our almost 4 year old and every toy she has is stored in there.

Yeah, we have 2 girls Smile

  • If I was an older child, I'd rather have the bigger closet. LOL

  • I think we'll give our older DD the choice.

Then if she's complaining about it in ten years we can say "Well, your 4 year old self made the decision". LOL
