Hi. I'm new to the boards and estimated to be 6 wks. I went to Hillcrest on 1/27 and the u/s barely showed anything so I was told to reschedule in two weeks where I would be about 7 wks. I went today and they had my chart totally screwed up. They told me I was 9 wks. and I said no way and told them what the Dr. said when I was there two weeks ago (it looked like I was about 5 wks.). The CNM got all upset and said "well did you schedule an u/s for today" and I told her that when I made my appt. I told them that the Dr. said I need another u/s in 2 wks b/c then they could tell if the heart was beating and such. I begged for an EDD (10/3) but I don't feel confident they knew. W/o going into a long story, the CNM (Cindy) was so mean--she didn't answer any of my questions and actually told me I had to go on and leave because she had other patients to see.
Has anyone used the CNMs at Hillcrest? I was really looking forward to working with them esp. since I'm planning to go w/o an epidural or any drugs if possible. I also liked that they would stay with me through the whole process, but this one was just nasty. Any advice?
Re: Hillcrest CNM
I don't necessarily have any advice, but I've been working with the CNMs there my whole pregnancy (just turned 30 weeks) and it's been a good experience so far. Cindy, I will admit, is my least favorite, but I've only seen her twice - and even then, she took the time to answer my questions.
Maybe wait and for your next appointment ask for another CNM - I'm pretty sure you can request specific ones to meet with.
Sorry you had a bad experience, though - hope it improves!
Edited to Add: Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm blown away that there are October due dates now (though simple math should make it less of a surprise, but it doesn't
)
Thanks so much for your response. I actually have a March appt. with Linda and I'm really hopeful for that one. I know I'm really not far along at all, but I'd love figure stuff out now while the important parts of baby are developing--can I get my hair dyed? Can I still get mani/pedis? This is my first so I'm really nervous about doing the 'wrong' thing.
And as for the October EDD, I'm not 100% sure it's correct. My last "real" cycle was a pill period in November, so.....
I like Linda. She's who I see most.
And you can continue to get your hair dyed. As for mani/pedis, just make sure there is good ventilation and you're okay. Did they give you the checklist of OK and not OK things and the book from the Clinic that essentially goes through your entire pregnancy and what to expect (it has a great page or two of medications that are okay to be taken for certain ailments - it's great!) If not, definitely ask for a copy
Thanks again! I did get the book and read that I can get my hair dyed and the meds that are okay to take, just kind of wanted a "verbal" opinnion. My closest friend goes to Dr. Alvarez and she told me with her first no hair dye, no caffeine, no chocolate, no fish, etc. but my other girlfriend (not in Ohio) said she drank soda (not tons, but...) did her normal stuff, ate fish, etc. and her daughter is perfect.
I'm sure it will turn out just fine. Thanks for your response and congratulations on your 30 weeks!
Hi- I had Barb and Char for my CNMs for both of my pregnancies. They were phenomenal! I love them! I saw Char for most of my appts and she was really thorough. I'd come in with a list of questions and she'd answer them wo drama. She was actually late for one of my appts because someone was really upset in an earlier appt. She didn't want to rush that person. I can appreciate that because she never rushed me. I had complications and they were always very thorough.
I had Barb for my second delivery (the first I think was Linda). Barb was awesome! She spent so much time with me. I honestly can't say how much I appreciated her. My first delivery was crazy so it's hard to compare but Linda was nice. But I really bonded with my CNMs. I don't think anyone would have been a good replacement.
Good Luck and congratulations!!
I go to the Willoughby office with Dr. Young. I had to see Barb one day, because Dr. Young had an emergency surgery. I was not impressed with Barb.
I was 18 weeks at the time, it was my 4th appt with them, and she was asking me questions like "What was the date of your last menstrual period?" and "What is your due date?" and "How much do you weigh?" and "Are you 18 weeks 3 days today?" and "You had an ultrasound with us before?"
It went on for like 10 minutes, with her asking all kinds of questions that she should have known the answer to... since she was looking at my chart online! Finally I said nicely, "Isn't all this information in the chart you are looking at?" and she said in a snotty tone, "Yes, I guess it is."
Then when I asked her about the quad screening Dr. Young wanted me to get at that visit, Barb said (again in a snotty tone), "Well, is that what you want... or just Dr. Young?" Excuse me... if a medical doctor recommends a test based on my personal health history (which she knows more about than Barb, who couldn't even find my due date on a medical chart), who is a nurse midwife to question it?
Needless to say, I was not impressed with her and will not be meeting with a CNM again if I can help it.
