Hi everyone,
I haven't been on this site in a very long time due to a move (stressful!!), but we are finally settled. Anyway, I apologize if this question has been asked already...
I have the dana crib from pottery barn; however, it is one of the old models and it has a drop side. After researching I am super paranoid that it's too dangerous...but we don't exactly have the funds to run out and purchase a new crib.
My question is - does anyone know of anything you can buy to make a drop-side crib a fixed-side crib instead? If so, where do you get it?
Also - just curious - what is everyones opinion on the drop-side crib? Would you worry if you had one?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Crib Question
I'm under the impression that the reason the drop side cribs have been recalled is mainly because people have been installing the movable side upside down, and with old screws that have loosened over time. Just make sure that you install it properly and test it to make sure there's no space between the mattress and the side- should be a snug fit.
If you have concerns, it's probably best to call their customer service- they would be able to help you with your questions. Good luck!
I wouldn't want one, but it doesn't seem like there have been problems with the high quality drop-side cribs.
If you're concerned, you can secure the side using screws.
Well, if you are really worried, BabiesRUs is having a "trade-in" event. You can take you're old crib in and they will give you 25% off a new one. Plus they're website is advertising a bunch of coupons you can print right now.
As far as your question goes, I don't really care for the drop-side cribs. When I was a nanny, the 10m old managed to figure out how to get her drop-side crib to actually drop down!!! I'm still puzzled at how she did it. However I think you could just use nails or screws to secure it in place. I wouldn't worry too much. You're fine for the first few months anyways and I'm sure you will be able to secure it before it might turn into anything you might worry about.
