Eddie Bauer carrier vs. Bjorn

DH has an awesome co-worker who is done having kids and is giving us everything she can to get it out of her house. (Thankfully, she has great taste and I love everything she has!) She gave us an Eddie Bauer carrier with lumbar support on Friday. Honestly, it was the biggest pain in the neck to get on, and having used Bjorns in the past when babysitting, I never remember them being so difficult to deal with. Additionally, the Eddie Bauer reviews aren't that great, with people saying you constantly have to readjust the straps.

Does anyone have experience with these to shed some light on whether I should just keep that one or whether it would be worth registering for the Bjorn I want?

Re: Eddie Bauer carrier vs. Bjorn

  • I guess it really all depends on how much you end up using it. So, you know, use your psychic skills and look into the future. Big Smile

It was something I felt like I HAD to have, but really, we barely used it. But then, some people use theirs a lot. If I was in your situation, I would probably keep the Eddie Bauer one (and/or my Bjorn if you're interested), as an extra, and register for an Ergo. I feel like you can use an Ergo longer. However--personally, I don't think we'd use an Ergo that much either, so we don't have one. But having tried one before (borrowed a friend's for our Disney trip, Holly was 10 mos old), it was much more comfortable for an older baby. But, the baby can't face out in it. I think the baby facing out is what puts such strain on your back though. Holly did seem to enjoy riding on my back.

But I think we're just stroller people, honestly. :-)

    GL!

ETA: Obviously, this is just what I would do in your situation. You might have no interest in the Ergo whatsoever, so take my advice FWIW! :-)

  • Hughes, you totally just educated me on a use for the Ergo that I never thought of - use it on your back! Much of my Bjorn experience was in college when I babysat for a baby who loved facing out with the Bjorn and hated facing in. So, I couldn't see what the point of an Ergo was if it could only face one direction. Now I get it.

I think you bring up a valid point. I'll probably use the Eddie Bauer carrier and/or your Bjorn (I'll let my parents use the other one), and if I determine I don't like it, I'll get something else. G's co-worker also has a Moby she's going to give us soon, so I should be set for a little while.

  • That's awesome--you have several you can test out! Who knows, one of them might work perfectly for you. If not, you can always get the exact one you want later on.. :-)

  • Honestly, I'd go for an Ergo or Beco over a Bjorn.  I have a Bjorn & like it, but I didn't think about wanting to wear him longer than he'd be able to fit in the Bjorn.  I just didn't think I'd be a big baby-wearer...until he arrived & I realized that I adore baby-wearing!

If your'e not going to wear him a lot, it makes more sense to get something free or cheaper, even if it's a hassle, rather than dropping over $100 on a carrier.
