Multiples

I need some help with remembering...

This really isn't a twin issue, but I enjoy this board and have yet to go anywhere else! So, this is my problem... I have ulcerative colitis, which I take three pills three times a day, everyday for the rest of my life. I have to take folic acid everyday, because of the medication for my U.C. I also have GAD, anxiety, so I take a anti-depressant every night before I go to bed because the side effect is drowsiness, and my doctor said it would be safer than taking a sleeping pill every night, because the anti-depressant is meant to be taken everyday. Oh, by the way, I have been taking the medications for a few years, nothing to do with being pregnant. But now since I am pregnant with twins, I also have to take a prescription for iron because I am always low, and I have to take a calcium pill because I hate dairy and my body can't handle it anyway because of my U.C.

WOW, that was a lot...

Help is where I need help, I can never remember to take all of my pills when I am suppose to everyday, except the anti-depressant, I love my sleep and need it to function, so that one always gets taken. My U.C. medication I never had a problem remembering to take, but now that I have two more pills added into the mix, I miss some of that medication too. I have tried everything I can think of to get myself on a schedule for taking my pills, but usually after a few days I forget about it. Does anyone have an easy way of remembering important things like this???

Here is what my pills schedule SHOULD look like...

Sulfasalazine 3 pills when I wake up

Calcium pill with breakfast

Folic acid and Sulfasalazine with lunch

Iron with dinner

Sulfasalazine about two hours after dinner

Amitriptylin about an hour before bed

That equals up to 13 pills everyday. Actually 14, I forgot my multivitamin. There has to be an easy way to do this, right???

Re: I need some help with remembering...

  • How about making a word document or excel spreadsheet, something like that...put down the medication name, the dose, the time you're supposed to take it, and a checkoff column for you to mark down that you took it.

Make a ton of copies of it. Keep it where you keep your pills, then record that you took it right after you swallow the pill.

If you have trouble remember to take them during the day, do you have an alarm on your phone or something so you can set a reminder for yourself to take it?

  • Set alarms on your cell phone with the name of the drug and dose.  You can make them recurring.  Then keep your cell phone on you at all times.
  • Loading the player...
  • Here is what I would do - try to couple your additional pills with your standing, every day pills:

Sulfasalazine 3 pills + calcium when I wake up

Folic acid, Sulfasalazine, multivitamin with lunch

Sulfasalazine + Iron about two hours after dinner

Amitriptylin about an hour before bed

Unless, of course, you're supposed to take some with food and some without food.  Really, though, it'll be a bear to remember everything.  I'd try to stick with your regular schedule.
