Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

i'm so tired of getting puked on.

and tired of buying a million different formulas.  i wonder if the zantac is making her puke.  i wonder if it just isn't working.  no, it's not a milk allergy because her poop is just fine.  i wonder if she has a stomach bug (DS and my mom just got over one).

sorry, just thinking "out loud" here.  i'm getting a little discouraged.  DD isn't losing weight, but holy geez that is so much puke to come out of such a tiny person.  and it is frustrating!

Re: i'm so tired of getting puked on.

  • Sorry BW. It sucks. DS1 used to puke down my shirt into my bra all the time. Ick!  DS2 doesn't maybe b/c he's BF.

How come you're not breastfeeding? Not into it? Can't?  Sorry don't mean to start drama....its your choice (obviously) just wondered...

    can't.

;-)  I hope it gets better soon.

  • Did they diagnose her with reflux?  If so I would recommend Prevacid.  Brooke puked 5 times after each feeding (and she ate every hour to hour and a half) and Prevacid changed our life.

she is on 1 mL of zantac twice a day.

i'm sorry, but that was in the OP.

  • Ugh, I can't imagine.  Does she vomit after every feeding?  Could the pedi recommend a different prescription?  Do they really think it's the formula?  Sorry for the questions... C did really well with powdered Enfamil Premium (I know that's a tougher one to handle)... he did not do well with the RTF crap, always spit that up.  What kind of formula is she on now?

I'm not even going to bother anymore, your moods aren't worth it.  You said it wasn't working, I recommended an alternative.

  • From my understanding...Zantac won't stop the puking/spitting up but it lessens the burn and the pain by helping to break it down in the esophagus/stomach. (Emmerson was on 1 mL twice a day as well)

Does she seem relieved? Or is she still fussy/in pain?

If the spit up doesn't seem to bother her then it may be just the way she's programmed. I hope you figure it out soon!

This is correct.  And Jess is right; sometimes Zantac isn't the miracle everyone hopes for, but its the Rx immediately prescribed for reflux b/c its the cheapest.  Talk to the pedi about moving up to the next level.

  • DS had reflux and zantac didn't touch his pain. When we switched to prevacid he was a different baby. (The puking didn't stop but it did get better so I second the raincoat.) I hope it gets better for both of you soon!

i'm sorry i didn't realize there was a difference.  thanks.  i'm realize a bundle of raw nerves right now for a lot of reasons.  sorry to take  it out on you./

  • I didn't see your OP, but I can completely understand this post!  Gavin had horrible reflux for months and he puked on me every.single.day, usually 3 or 4 times.  He was on prevacid until almost 8 months for the pain, but it does not really help the puking.

The AR formula helped better than anything, since it was thicker, so it stayed down a little better.  We also had to go through the nasty alimentum and nutramagin formulas to rule out a milk allergy, and he basically refused to drink those at all.

I know this is easier said than done, but try to hang in there.  She will grow out of it!

ETA: I also became an expert at diverting the puke.  If we were in the kitchen, I would aim him at the sink or trash can.  If I was over carpet, I would hold him into my chest and just take it, because it was easier to clean myself than the carpet.  I was a master :)

  • I'm going to go with the stomach bug. The younger they are, the longer it takes to get over. If you are switching around formulas anymore than every two weeks or so, that could also be upsetting her stomach.
