I saw my nephew today again. He's even cuter now that he lost the newborn swelling, but I digress.
My brother's girlfriend had a perfect pregnancy. She didn't have any morning sickness, no anything etc. Excellent for her. She was induced and slept through her entire induction just with the epidural drip. She ended up with a c-section but that was on wednesday and she's walking around today like nothing ever happened. The baby rarely cries, he's happy as a clam. Great. perfect so far.
The cherry on top...my nephew, who is only 4 days old has slept through the night the last two nights! He's breastfed at 11pm and had to be woken up at 7:30am to be fed. TWO NIGHTS!
I had a horrible, complicated, high risk pregnancy, I was sick as a dog until WELL into my 2nd trimester. My epidural didn't take so I was in horrible pain my entire induction. My kid screamed pretty much for 4 months straight after he was born. At 5 months old I was still waking up 6 times a night with him. Heck, he STILL doesn't sleep through the night every night!
I clearly got the short end of the stick. This isn't fair.
(yes, I know I'm being a brat).
Re: It isn't fair!
That isn't fair
That said, I'm VERY concerned about the STTN at 4 days old. For the first two weeks we weren't to let him go more than 3 hours and to wake him, and for the first month it was more than every 4-5 hours. We did have some other issues that made the doctor put us on the whole month schedule, but the first 2 weeks was something that was a GIVEN.
I'm in this camp. I choose to believe I got my "challenging" one first and my next one will be easy.
?
That's what I said but she told me the doctor told her not to wake him
We were told that we did not have to wake her to feed once she had returned to her birth weight, which was 4 days after she was born. Granged, she fed at 11 and woke at 3 and again at 7 for the 1st 6 weeks, then started STTN, so it was not issue for us. But i guess 4 days old is young to go that long
That little one has a lot of time to show his true colors. DS was the easiest baby for about 2-3 weeks and I remember our pedi laughing at us and saying "Oh just wait, they show their true colors at about 1 month". Sure enough...he did....and gave us just about all we could handle (sometimes more) until he was 6 months.
Is her pedi not recommending waking him for feedings every 4 hours? Joseph would sleep 6 hours straight at night the first few weeks but the pedi really encouraged me to feed him every 4 hours, even if it meant waking him.
Our pedi said we didn't have to wake DS to eat, either, since he was above birth weight when he came home and again at his 2 day newborn checkup.
That said, this baby is still BRAND NEW. And as a mom you know that things involving baby "routines" can change in a second. She'll have her sleepless nights, don't worry.

Hmmm, good point Lucy! I had totally forgotten about that too. I thought Everyone was told not to let the baby go for more than 3 hours Tops without eating. Even if they were a healthy weight.
Maybe she's lying about how easy things are??
I know how frustrating that can be! DD was a terror!
FWIW, the first week was actually amazing for me and DD. I was on such an adrenaline high that I wasn't in that much pain or tired. DD was so quiet and barely cried and while she didn't STTN completely, she did only wake once to BF and that was right in the middle of the night. So we were getting good 4-5 hour stretches. But that ALL changed! My adrenaline high wore off and I was in pain for 3 months. DD "woke up" to the world and pretty much cried ALL the time for the next 6 months, and would not let us put her in her crib ever. She would wake up so many times overnight.
Not that I'm wishing that upon them. But I thought I had the world's perfect baby the first week and was feeling great. And then everything changed.
Generally, I think you're usually told it's ok to let them sleep overnight as long as they want if they are back up to birth weight. When we left the hospital we were told to feed her every 2-3 hours during the day and that we could let her go 4 hours overnight. But once her weight returned back to her birth weight the pedi said we didn't have to wake her up overnight. And DD returned to birthweight pretty quickly.
I know how you feel - we still get pissy when we see babies and toddlers sleeping peacefully in their stroller or on mom's/dad's shoulder when DS would NEVER sleep like that, ever!
But honestly, she'll get it soon enough, whether it's now or later. And no baby is as cute or snuggly as yours right??
That's right!
