I'm trying to cut plastics out and I was thinking that Pyrex would be the way to go. Is that the best replacement for Tupperware? Any other tips/advice for eliminating plastics but still having user-friendly kitchen supplies?
Another question....are silicone baking utensils safe or should I replace them with metal ones?
TIA

I can't remember where I read it, but someplace said that Pyrex has a coating on their glass? Does anyone know about this? I don't think it was considered to be dangerous/toxic. I just would like to know more.
We use Anchor or Pyrex most of the time.
I think Pyrex has a proprietary blend of minerals, and is made using a proprietary method. However, so far as I know, it's still just glass. Unless they have some line I don't know of, I think it's totally safe.
Now...if they'd just make some glass lids for their stuff, I'd be in bliss!
pyrex "bake, serve 'n store" comes with both glass and BPA-free plastic/rubber lids. We use them and love them. They only have 2 sizes right now, but the sales guy at the outlet said they are new and if they become popular they will start making more sizes.
i also have some anchor-hocking ones that i love, but the glass lids slide around more, and i like that the pyrex have the plastic lids so i can throw them in the diaper bag or DH's lunch sack.
Aw shoot. Now I want. I wonder if they'd just sell me the lids...?
