teething question

I've heard to look if there was a white spot on the gums. . . the whole time I thought it meant on the "chewing part" of the gums.  I noticed today that on the front of the gums I can see a pretty big white spot where the canine tooth might be.  I can also see what looks like the outline of 4 more teeth.  Is this the beginning of teething or is it just how a baby's gums look?  I've tried a google image search and it was little help.
