Chicco vs Britax Infant Car Seat

I'm debating between the Chicco Keyfit 30 and the Britax Chaperone. They are both rated really high.  Here's my dilemma - The Britax doesn't fit with the stroller my husband prefers (uppababy) and the Chicco does.   Both fit into our 2nd choice stroller (baby jogger).  The Britax just looks more safe - has more foam padding and has the extra safety bar that other car seats don't.  Not sure if it's really necessary though.   Any advice?  Thanks ladies!

Re: Chicco vs Britax Infant Car Seat

  • JMO but I would say safety of child seat should be a priority over the strollers.  I got the chaperone bc of all the safety features.  Not all the reviews are out since it's pretty new, but I ordered it from Albeebaby and LOVED it.  Of course LO isn't here but I played around with it, it's super easy to instal and take in and out of the base.

You would only use the  travel system for a short time, why not get both stroller and car seat you love?  Maybe get ones of those click and go things?

  • We are getting the Chicco. It has gotten great reviews everywhere we looked and seems perfectly safe to me. Some of that other stuff can just be 'gravy'.

  • Chicco is one of the highest rated safety infant car seats. I would not spend the extra money on a Britax since with an infant seat you do not use it for that long.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!

This exactly!  We're going with a Chicco since everyone we know has one as well and have been extrememly happy with it.

  • We are getting a Britax for safety reasons. It was worth it for us and there are strollers that work with it. Plus, our family friends own a baby store (for 40 years) and Britax was the one they recommended so we're going with that. But both brands are good.

  • They both pass the same safety testing the only added safety item on the Britax is the anti rebound bar.  I am a tech and love the Chicco.  I really want the britax just because to cow print will match my daughters seat but I wont spend the extra money on it.

Here is a great review from another tech of both seats.  They may help you decied what you want.

  • We used the Britax Companion (Chaperone is a little bigger) and it was a TANK.  I could not imagine my child being safer in another carseat, once we put him in it.  If you have the opportunity to see an actual baby in an actual Britax infant seat, you will see what I mean.  The Chicco and other just leave the child so exposed.  With the Britax, he was locked down, there was no extra room for moving, the head support was amazing.  There just isn't a seat that compares as far as head support goes.
  • Try out the Chaperone in your car first - it fit in my back seat but the passenger seat would have to be pushed all the way to the front, in which case no one would be able to sit up there.  It's big.  So we went with the Chicco, good luck!
