I think it refers to babies who get breast milk only - no formula. Whether it be from the breast or a bottle.
this exactly
Bunny doesn't get formula, but I do pump occasionally and he get BM from a bottle then. (mostly so I can get an extra hour of sleep while husband is still awake.)

I've heard both definitions, but I think any baby who is getting all breastmilk and no formula is EBF. Saying it can only come from the nipple really minimizes the sacrifice and hard work of EBF mom who work, which I think is harder and much more work than EBF when you SAH!
My question was always whether EBF included those who previously supplemented. DS was in the NICU for his first week so he was formula fed a great deal of the time. His last formula meal was the day he came home, but I was always reluctant to don the EBF badge (which is silly, I know).

jday- That is a sillly question!! lol... are you too young to know the reference "We don't need no stinking badges!" ??? Anyway- there is no boobie police who are going to bust you for impersonating an EBFer... I think that you certainly "qualify" and can wear your badge with pride. You earned it Mama!
that said, there is a term you rarely hear- "a virgin gut" and for that- the early formula would disqualify.
